My HP ENVY laptop does not have built-in Bluetooth. I purchased a USB Bt adapter and have it installed in a USB hub. When I go to Windows > Settings > Devices > Bluetooth and other devices I see that I have Bluetooth On as you can see in the screenshot. When I turn some Skullcandy Vinyl earbuds to pairing mode, they never show up in the list of devices. I have successfully paired the earbuds with my iPad; so they appear to be OK. Yes, I unpaired them from the iPad before trying pair them with the laptop.
I cannot use speakers as they would disrupt others. I would prefer not to use headphones because the earbuds allow greater freedom of movement and are more convenient all around.
I'm at a loss as to how to proceed. I've searched and read articles and watched YT videos and found nothing helpful.
Will this approach to Bluetooth for the ENVY laptop not work? If it can be done, could someone please tell me how to do it?
TIA

I followed all your instructions. I'm in the same place I started except the BIOS has been updated. 🙂
After reading the Bluetooth article and updating the BIOS and restarting, I put the earbuds in pairing mode and opened Settings > Devices > Bluetooth_and_other_devices > Add_Bluetooth_or_other_device and got the screen shown. After 10 minutes and moving the earbuds around at varying distances from the USB Bluetooth adapter, nothing has happened.
What next?

I discovered the problem and post here in case anyone else has the same issue.
My Bluetooth USB adapter was plugged into a USB hub. Apparently it does not work in a hub but must be installed in a port on the laptop. I read that as a suggestion in an Internet answer and tried it. It worked.
1) First make sure your Bluetooth device is on and ready to pair.
2) Install you Bluetooth Network Adapter in a USB port on your system (laptop in this case).
3) Verify by checking Device Manager Network Adapters that your system recognizes it. Mine appears as the first Network Adapter in the screenshot below.
4) Open Settings > Devices > Bluetooth_and_other_devices then click on + Add Bluetooth or other devices.
5) Make the appropriate choice from the 3 types listed. In my case I chose the first one in order to pair my Bluetooth earbuds.
You should see your device ID displayed in the panel that appears. Click on it and pairing should proceed. In the screenshot, there is not device ID displayed because I have already paired my device. I included the screenshot to show the panel it should appear in. If you get a blank panel like this one, something is wrong, probably your device is not in pairing mode or possibly your Bluetooth adapter is not working.
Your device should pair an appear in the Bluetooth and Other Devices window.
I hope this will help someone else who needs to connect a Bluetooth device through a USB Bluetooth network adapter.
