Hey guys
I'm also trying to upgrade the native Broadcom 4313GN wireless card from HP Pavilion G6 series to the Intel dua-lband AC 7260 - the biggest problem is that we no longer can find the drivers on Intel's portal - they have fully discontinued it. Could anybody that already went through this share these drivers for Windows 7? That would be a huge help.

You're very welcome.
They have them for W7, W8, & W8.1 only.
If you ever decide to upgrade your notebook to W10, fortunately I had saved the last W10 Wifi and BT drivers Intel released for the 7260AC before they removed them.
Just today, I zipped them and uploaded them to my Skydrive folder and have shared the link to that folder with you below:

Download and unzip the file labeled Intel 7260AC WiFi & Bluetooth drivers.zip

Awesome, thank you again Paul!!!
About the W10 upgrade - I wanted to do that but I read multiple discouraging treads, saying that W10 would not be supported by HP, letting me think it wouldn't work properly - isn't really the case then?
All external interfaces like USB, HDMI, LAN ports and even DVD drive would work?

You're very welcome.
If your notebook does not have the AMD/Intel switchable graphics adapters, W10 should work fine.
Unfortunately, no W10 graphics drivers were ever released for the g6 notebooks with the swichable graphics.
So, if your notebook has the onboard Intel graphics only, here is how you can upgrade to W10:
You can upgrade from W7>W10 by making a bootable USB installation flash drive with the media creation tool at the link below.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
You will need another PC running W10/W11 64 bit to make the installation media because I believe the media creation tool no longer works on W7 or W8.
After the USB installation media has been created, plug it into your PC's USB port.
Do not boot from it.
Open the flash drive in Windows Explorer and double click on the Setup application you see there to begin the upgrade process to W10.
The only thing that may not work would be the SD card reader and this W10 driver should fix that.

You have 10 days to go back to W7 in case things don't work right on W10.

You will need to install DVD playing software because W10 does not have native support for that.
If the software from your notebook's support page doesn't work, you can install the free VLC media player from the Microsoft Store.

Hi:
Your notebook has the onboard Intel graphics adapter only, so you should be able to upgrade it to W10.
The question I have is: how did you get the Intel 7260AC wifi adapter to work in that model?
To the best of my knowledge, that model series has a BIOS whitelist which prevents the installation of any other model Wi-Fi card from working other than the one that came with your notebook.
Installing an unsupported wifi card will prevent the notebook from booting up until it is removed.
