I installed a new hard drive and Windows 10 x64. Laptop originally had Win 7. When I press the wifi button it stays orange, Device manager says the right driver is installed and the device is working and wifi is on automatic in Services. On the driver download sight there are Broadcom drivers for Windows 7 but not for Windows 8.1 and nothing listed for Win 10. I couldn't find wifi drivers on Broadcoms site. I'm using a USB adapter now. Thanks

Hi:
The BCM wifi adapter your notebook has is not supported for W10 which is why there are no drivers for it.
The only suggestion I can offer, would be to try the W8.1 driver and see if that gets the wifi to work.
If not, you will probably have to continue using a USB wifi adapter because that model has a BIOS whitelist which prevents any other wifi adapters than those listed in the service manual from working.
You could try installing the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6205, HP part number 631954-001, if you live in one of the countries supported by this model wifi adapter.
See chapter 3, page 43 of the service manual.

I would look for the card on eBay by searching by the HP part number.
The card you buy must have the HP part number on it or it will not work.
Try to find a seller who shows the card with the actual part number shown on the 'Replace with HP Spare' label.

The cheapest one I could find that actually shows the part number is this one...
I can't guarantee it will work, but that would be your best option.
Intel does not support that card for the later versions of W10, but they did release a driver for it way back when.
