Hi Paul
I still haven’t received everything you suggested I buy . I decided to to update the Bios but can’t seem to accomplish that through Hp support because I’m not running w10.
Any suggestion on how to accomplish the update?
Thanks
Bob

Hi, Bob:
Early in this discussion I gave you the link to the last BIOS update HP released for your notebook and advised you to install it before installing W7 or W10...see my reply near the top of page 2.

Hi Paul
Found it and did the Bios update. I kind of wasn’t sure what those addresses were ,but now I know.
I received the hard drive but the Windows 7 CD hasn’t shown up yet. That will be my next move and then upgrade to W 10. Will I need to update the bios after I install W 10 ?
Thanks again for your help , Obviously I couldn’t have got this far without your help.
Thanks
Bob

You're very welcome, Bob.
You have the last BIOS update that HP released for your notebook.
BIOS updates are one and done, unless there's a new update, which there never will be.
No need to update the BIOS anymore.

Hi Paul
Shocker I’m back.
So I installed the new SSD drive and then installed W7 but apparently I installed the wrong version to match my product code.
My product code tag says: Windows 7 Pro CIS and GE LCP for OEM Software
My first question is what version should I have installed? My second question is can I change the version without uninstalling the old version I installed which was Windows 7 Home Premium
64 bit ?
Also when I turn it off and restart it Operating System Not Found comes up and I have to insert the DVD. What’s up with that?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Hi, Bob:
Unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with either of those issues.
I have no idea where you can download Windows 7 Pro CIS and GE LCP for OEM Software.
You would have to reinstall Windows though.
You can try downloading the plain W7 Pro software and see what happens...toward the bottom of the page.
Windows 7 Professional Free Download ISO 32 / 64 Bit (getintopc.com)
Use the Microsoft tool that I zipped up and attached below that you will need to transfer the ISO file to a DVD so that it is bootable.
As far as the Operating System Not Found error and you have to insert a DVD to get it to work, something tells me that there is a problem with the boot structure or an outdated sata controller driver.
Try an easy fix and install the latest Intel chipset driver for your PC, restart and maybe that will resolve that problem by installing the latest sata ahci controller driver.

Paul
Thanks Again for your help. If I put the new SSD drive in compartment 2 , would that be the problem?I switched them and I am downloading W7 again using the pro 32 bit version. I’ll let you know what happens. Thanks for the tool you sent me.
Thanks

Hi Paul
After doing the stuff I mentioned in the previous text it seems to be working OK. One more question when I upgrade to W 10 will I be able to use that product code?
Also the computer is much faster with that SSD drive. It’s like a new computer.
Again thanks for all your help I couldn’t of done it without you.
Thanks
Bob

Hi, Bob:
That is good news.
If W7 is activated, you don't need a product key to upgrade to W10.
Just click on the blue Update Now button at the link below...
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Hi Paul
Finally the w 10 is installed. Thanks for all your help !! I have a couple of small issues that you might have an answer for
1) After installing w10 my webcam doesn't work, I can't even find it the device manager. Did you have this problem when you upgraded to w10?
2) The zoom in/out doesn't work on the touchpad just with CTRL +/_
Thanks Again
Bob
