I just purchased Victus Desktop and not able to get internet connection when using ethernet cable.
The cable has a green light on where it is plugged in but...
If I disable wifi connection I no longer can get internet connection.
I assumed it should immediately connect via ethernet.
Thanks for your help/

Hi @Bluebug008,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your Victus By HP 15L Gaming Desktop should automatically switch to the Ethernet connection when it's plugged in, but it’s not working as expected. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue.
Check Ethernet Cable and Port:
- Ensure the Ethernet cable is firmly connected to both the desktop and the router or modem.
- Try using a different Ethernet cable or port to rule out any issues with the cable or router port.
Verify Network Settings:
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
- Click on Change adapter options.
- Ensure the Ethernet adapter is enabled. If it's disabled, right-click on it and select Enable.
Update Network Drivers:
- Right-click on the Start button and select Device Manager.
- Expand the Network adapters section.
- Right-click on your Ethernet adapter and select Update driver.
- Choose Search automatically for updated driver software.
Check IP Configuration:
- Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
- Type ipconfig /all and press Enter.
- Look for your Ethernet adapter and check if it has a valid IP address (usually starts with 192.168 or 10.0).
Reset Network Settings:
- Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Status.
- Scroll down and click Network reset.
- Follow the prompts to reset your network settings.
Check Router Settings:
- Ensure the router is properly assigning IP addresses (usually via DHCP). You can access the router's settings through its IP address (often 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) and check the configuration.
Test with Another Device:
- Try connecting another device to the Ethernet cable and port to ensure that the issue isn't with the desktop itself.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
