Hi @Bud70,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your Surface Pro and HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus are connected to the same network but you're still unable to print, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can follow.

Check Printer Connection:

  • Make sure that the HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus is connected to the Wi-Fi network. You can usually find this information on the printer's control panel or by printing a network configuration page.
  • Ensure that the Surface Pro is also connected to the same Wi-Fi network.

Printer Driver:

  • Ensure that the correct printer driver is installed on your Surface Pro. You can download the latest driver from the official HP website.
  • If you have already installed the driver, consider reinstalling or updating it to ensure compatibility with your Surface Pro.

Print Queue:

  • Check the print queue on your Surface Pro to see if there are any pending print jobs. Sometimes, print jobs get stuck and can cause issues with new print requests.

Firewall/Antivirus:

  • Disable any firewall or antivirus software temporarily on your Surface Pro. Sometimes, these security measures can interfere with the communication between the computer and the printer.

Printer Status:

  • Check the status of the printer on your Surface Pro. Ensure that it is set as the default printer.

Restart Devices:

  • Power cycle both your Surface Pro and the HP printer. Turn them off, wait for a few seconds, and then turn them back on.

IP Configuration:

  • Check the IP configuration on both devices to make sure they are on the same subnet. You can find the IP address of the printer on the network configuration page.

Update Firmware:

  • Check if there are any firmware updates available for your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus. Updating the firmware can sometimes resolve connectivity issues.

Check for Error Messages:

  • Look for any error messages on the printer's display or on your Surface Pro. This can provide clues about the nature of the problem.

By following these steps, you should be able to identify and resolve the issue causing the printing problem between your Surface Pro and HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
