Envy X2 g000
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

I wanted to completely reset the PC (frankly it waas behaving very inconsistently, constant crashes, mouse pointer disappearing etc.) and used the windows utility to do that. At the very end a DOS-style screen asked me to use the vol up / vol down keys to decide whether to wipe completely or not. I chose to wipe completely.

So then I had a PC with no operating system which is not what I expectwed when I selected to reset completely.

I downloaded Win 8 creating a boot stick on another machine and have now reinstalled windows.

I have found most of the drivers for the keyboard, mouse etc. on the HP wesbsite.

I am unable to install Sp64212 which is the driver for the wireless network. When I run it I get an error setup.exe has failed.

So, without wireless I can't complete the setup, and I can't use any of the HP utilities to fix it because they all expect the internet.

How can I install the driver to get wirless working?

Hi:

I used 7-zip to explore the driver folder and all of the drivers are there.

So, see if this works...

Download and install this free file utility.  You want the first file listed for 32 bit.

http://www.7-zip.org/

Download and save sp64212.  Don't run it.

After you have done both, right click on sp64212 and select 7-Zip from the list.

Have 7-Zip Extract to: and let it extract the files into the sp64212 folder name.

Once you have done that, go to the device manager and click on the 'Network Controller' device needing drivers.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update Driver.

Select the Browse my computer for driver software option, and browse to the sp64212 driver folder that 7-zip created.

Make sure the Include Subfolders box is checked, and the driver should install.

Thank you.

It is now working perfectly.

One odd behaviour: when I tried to install the driver it said it alreday had the best driver installed. I unistalled the driver, then forced it to install this driver. Windows complained a little because it could not verify the driver, but nevertheless it installed and one reboot later the wireless adapter is working.

Really helpful and quick answer, so thank again.

You're very welcome.

Glad you were able to get around that glitch.

Since I have no specific experience with that model notebook, I did not know you were going to encounter that issue by using the method I outlined.

Kudos to you for figuring out how to get out of the briar patch.

I used 7-zip to explore the driver folder and than click in dpinst.exe and the drive will be installed. I had the same problem and after this it works again

Wow... Thanks @Paul_Tikkanen

It worked well for me

Did an upgrade from Windows 8 to Windows 10 on my envy x2 and the wireless stopped working. Tried everything possible to install a driver but couldn't until I tried your method and it worked.

Thanks a lot man
