Hp 2540 desk jet printer
iOS 12 - 12.0.1

The printer won’t connected through wireless to new I pad . Have followed instructions but when we go to WiFi on tablet settings there isn’t anywhere to put the code that has been printed? What am I doing wrong ?

Hi

If you can find the IP address for both devices, and post them here maybe we can suggest something.

Why IP addresses ?

Hi

Because your circumstances don't make sense.

The usual is an ISP, modem/router, which dispenses IP addresses (DHCP) to devices.

So my PC is 192.168.0.11  and my 2540 is 192.168.0.30 both on the same network and can be pinged.

IF I am wrong, egg on my face is quite usual, and you have an iPad and a printer (no network or internet etc) then you would want to add a printer,

HP Deskjet 2540 All-in-One which is Air-Print compatible then

This is macOS 12 driver, but not iOS

If in doubt please ask.

Thanks for helping it’s a bit difficult as I’m trying to help my dad with this and I’m being no help lol and can only do it over the phone to him and I don’t have access to it. I have googled instructions but seem to be different. He has a router and a good connection but the router has been replaced and my sister had said she had set the printer up in the past by just printing out the sheet from the printer with the code and entering it ? .... Is this wrong ? Has he first got to connect the printer to the new router with the password from the router using his I pad In settings ? Seems I’m being a bit thick sorry

Hi

Ahhh?

So some routers are 192.168.0.xxx like mine.  Some are 192.168.1.xxx or something else.

So if the new router is a different range then that may be the reason. The print out sheet can help, but isn't guaranteed to be current, only the last settings.

Some routers have a PIN or WPS that 'automagically' allows anything to connect within a 10 - 30 second period and remain connected thereafter.  This might give some help.

So please keep asking if they need more.
