Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

Ok so I thought I was somewhat computer savvy. But I just purchased an HP Pavilion 17 Notebook from a friend and I have no kdea how to connect it to my wireless internet. It keeps telling me I need an Ethernet cord. I know there has to be a way to connect it to my wireless internet. Someone please help!

@Aspen1stClass,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are unable to connect to the wireless network on your computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

What is the exact model for your computer?

Is the wireless light amber on the keyboard?

Meanwhile, I recommend you click on the right-hand bottom of the computer (Notification icon) and then click on the wireless icon. Once you click on the wireless icon it will show you the available networks in the range, then click on your network and enter the password to connect to your network.

If you continue facing the issue, then I recommend you uninstall the wireless driver from the device manager and then download and install it from the below link.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Type "Device Manager" into the search field to open the device manager console.
  2. Expand the node that represents the type of device that you want to uninstall, right-click the device entry, and click Uninstall.
  3. On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click OK to start the uninstall process.
  4. When the uninstall process is complete, remove the device.

NOTE: On the Confirm Device Removal dialog box, click the Delete the driver software for this device option to delete the driver package that was used for the device.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!
