Hi @Emma1007
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like you're having trouble connecting your HP Chromebook to the internet. This can happen for several reasons, but there are some straightforward steps you can follow to troubleshoot and resolve the issue.
Here’s what you can try:
1. Check the Wi-Fi Connection
- Ensure that the Wi-Fi network you're trying to connect to is working properly. Try connecting another device (like a phone or tablet) to the same Wi-Fi network to ensure it’s not an issue with the router itself.
- Make sure that the Wi-Fi network you're trying to connect to is not hidden. If it's a hidden network, you'll need to manually enter the network name (SSID) and the password.
2. Restart the Chromebook
Sometimes a simple restart can resolve connection issues.
- Shut down the Chromebook completely by holding the power button until it powers off.
- Wait for a few seconds and then turn the Chromebook back on.
3. Restart the Router
If the issue persists, try restarting your router:
- Unplug the router from the power outlet.
- Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and wait for it to fully restart (the lights should stabilize).
- Once the router is back online, try connecting your Chromebook again.
4. Forget and Reconnect to Wi-Fi
If the Chromebook is stuck on "connecting", you can try forgetting the network and reconnecting:
- Click the Wi-Fi icon at the bottom-right of the Chromebook’s screen (in the system tray).
- Find your network in the list and click the "i" button next to it.
- Click Forget to remove the saved connection.
- Now, reconnect by selecting your Wi-Fi network again and entering the password.
5. Check for Software Updates
Make sure that your Chromebook is up-to-date, as updates can fix connectivity issues:
- Click on the time in the bottom-right corner of the screen.
- Open Settings by clicking on the gear icon.
- Scroll down to About Chrome OS and click it.
- Click Check for updates. If an update is available, let it install and then restart the Chromebook.
6. Try a Different Wi-Fi Network
If you're still having trouble, test the Chromebook with a different Wi-Fi network (e.g., a mobile hotspot or another Wi-Fi network) to ensure the issue isn't with your current network.
7. Disable VPN or Proxy (if applicable)
If you're using a VPN or proxy on your Wi-Fi network, it might be preventing the Chromebook from connecting.
- Go to Settings > Network > Wi-Fi.
- Disable any VPN or proxy settings, if they're enabled, and then try connecting again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
