While making this profile HP did not let pick the username I wanted which was not vulgar, but anyways. How come HP has such bad problems with wifi? Should I just get a different brand? My laptop constantly jumps, disconnects, etc. Such a bad product.

Hi @1stamendment,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I hear your frustration, and you’re absolutely right, Wi-Fi issues can feel like the last straw when you just want a reliable connection. HP laptops, like many brands, rely on Windows networking and third-party wireless chipsets, so problems often come from driver conflicts, power management settings, or router compatibility rather than the hardware alone.

Here are some steps that usually help stabilize Wi-Fi on HP systems:

1. Update Wireless Drivers

  • Open HP Support Assistant or go to Official HP® Support.
  • Install the latest Wi-Fi adapter driver for your model.
  • Also check for BIOS updates, as these often improve wireless stability.

2. Adjust Power Management

  • Go to Device Manager → Network Adapters → [Your Wi-Fi Adapter] → Properties → Power Management.
  • Uncheck “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.”
  • In Windows Power Options, set Wireless Adapter Settings → Maximum Performance.

3. Reset Network Settings

  • In Windows, go to Settings → Network & Internet → Advanced Network Settings → Network Reset.
  • Restart your PC and reconnect to Wi-Fi.

4. Router Compatibility

  • Ensure your router is on 2.4 GHz or dual-band mode (some HP models struggle with 5 GHz-only networks).
  • Update router firmware if possible.

5. Disable Modern Standby (Optional)

Some HP laptops experience Wi-Fi drops due to Modern Standby. Disabling it can help:

  • Run powercfg /a in Command Prompt to check sleep states.
  • If Modern Standby is active, I can guide you through disabling it.

I hope this helps.
