My desktop has DVI and VGA connectors for video out... no HDMI. The DVI connection is already in-use for my monitor. I would like to get video to my 42" HD plasma TV (not a smart TV), which does NOT have a VGA connector (only 2 HDLC and 1 set of composite inputs). I have a Roku Ultra connected to the TV.
1) I have tried a VGA-to-HDMI converter, but I get "unsupported mode" on the TV when I try to connect directly to the TV through it. I've tried multiple HDMI
2) I have tried using Miracast, from the PC to my Roku, but that does not work for me. When I check for Miracast support on my current wi-fi adaptor, it says Miracast is not supported. Note: my wi-fi card failed a year or two ago and I replaced it with a "Ralink RT5390 802.11b/g/n", which is pretty slow as far as wi-fi goes.
With what I've read, I think my most economical approach is to replace my wi-fi adaptor with a USB unit, such as a TP-Link Archer T3U Plus. I have one on another (custom build) desktop and DXDIAG says it is capable of Miracast. Am I headed down the right path or does the wi-fi adaptor have nothing to do with my problem?
Thanks!
