dv6-6c57nr
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

Hi,

I'm new here and desparate.  I have an older  hp dv6-6c57nr with the WIndows 7,  32/64 bit OS notebook and the hard drive died.  Yep - just stoped working.  I installed a new hard drive and I am having a devil of a time trying to get the proper drives for this computer.  If anyone can give me a list of drivers that I need to install and where to get them, it would be greatly appreciated.  My  Device Manager lists the following components with no drivers installed:

Ethernet Controller (10/100/100 Gigabit Eithernet LAN)  Not sure about this - No manufacture listed

Network Controller (802.11/b/g/n WLAN)  No manufacture listed

PCI Simple Communications Controller  (No clue what this is or how to get the driver)

SM Bus COntroller (again no clue)

Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller

Unknown Device -??????  Got me

Unknown Device- ?????? Again ????

At a minimum if someone could just get me the correct NETWORK CONTROLLER driver so I can get the machine back on line that would be a tremendous help as I could scan the internet for the correct drivers.  I've tried three or four drivers for the Network controller that I've gotten from dirfferent sites and none work. H   E   L   P   ! ! !

Thanks in advance!

Sorry about that.  I posted the description, and forgot the link.

I edited my post above which now includes the driver file.

Here is some real fun reading regarding what that device is for...

Hi:

You need these drivers...

SM Bus Controller:  Install this driver first and restart the PC.

This package contains the Intel Chipset Installation Utility and Driver for supported notebook models and operating systems. This utility enables the operating system to show the correct name for the installed Intel hardware in the Microsoft Windows Device Manager.

PCI Simple Communications Controller:

This package provides the Intel Management Engine Interface (MEI) Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The Intel Management Engine Interface enables communication between the host operating system and the Intel Management Engine firmware.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55100.exe

Ethernet Controller:

This package provides the Realtek Local Area Network (LAN) Driver that enables the Realtek Network Interface Card (NIC) Chip in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55105.exe

Network Controller:

This package contains the driver installation package for the Realtek RTL8188CE wireless LAN Controller in the supported notebook models running a supported operating system.

Unknown Device:

This package contains the driver that enables the Validity Fingerprint Sensor in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system. The fingerprint sensor scans fingerprints for use with biometric security applications

http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp55001-55500/sp55109.exe

Unknown Device:

This will install HP 3D DriveGuard, which provides protection for a notebook computer's internal disk drive if the computer is accidentally dropped or abruptly hits another object. This package is available on supported notebooks with supported operating systems.

Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller: (I think)

This package provides the Renesas Electronics USB 3.0 Host Controller Driver for the supported notebook models and operating systems. The driver enables USB 3.0 devices.

Hello & thanks TONS!

I've download all of the links that you posted and I will get on it bright and early tomorrow.  Quite frustrated now and I don't want to screw this up.  I do have one question.  You listed Six controllers and there was a link for all of them with the exception of the second one - "PCI Simple Controller"  Do I need a driver (download) for this or is it included in one of the 5 down loads that you listed.

I'm not very good at stuff like this, but I'm willing to learn.  I'm a (relatively) old dog and I don't mind learning new tricks.  You've done all of the hard stuff in finding the links and I'm very appreciative and I don't want to put you out any more than I have.

Thanks again.

PS - I don't even know what a simple controller is!

Sorry I took so long to get back to you.  All of the info that you provided got me going in the right direction.  If it wasn't for your excelleant advice I couldn't have accomplished anythig.  I installed all the drivers but I still had problems with the PCI adpter and USB controller.  I navigated my way around the hp site and downloaded ALL of the drivers.  I did a "hunt & peck" and luckly I installed two more drivers that fixd those issues.  My device manager tab has no yellow !'s on it.  My last issue was the screen appeared to be elongated.  (????) The device adapter listed was for VGA.  I do remember a sharp perfect screen so back to the drivers and again, I got lucky and installed the correct driver for a great looking screen.  Again, if it wasn't for your help I would be dead in the water.  Also I learned alot about the computer in the process.  THANKS AGAIN!

One last bit of help.  How do I give you "kudos" on the site?  I tried clicking on the "accept the as a solution" in the email I received from the forum,  but nothing happens.  Seems I did not get the link with the tab.

Thanks again!
