HP Pavilion Gaming Laptop 15-cx0xxx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

My computer frequently disconnects from the wifi, especially when I open it after standby. This has happened on several different wifi-networks, whereas I think it must be a problem with my computer. When I make my computer or "HP Support Assistant" troubleshoot the network when I got the problem, it says in the process of troubleshooting that it resets "the card wifi" and at the end, it says the computer didn't have a valid IP-configuration.

I have tried to reset the network card a few times. Moreover, I have tried to install new drivers to the network card from HP support assistant and as the last one, from your homepage, which was called: "Realtek RTL8xxx Wireless LAN Drivers" which include the numbers: RTL8188EE, RTL8723BE, RTL8723DE, RTL8821CE, RTL8822BE and RTL8822CE, if this is for any help.

It said on your homepage that in the last driver there were fixed some issues about the computer being unable to reconnect to wifi after wifi disconnects automatically, but I still have the same problem. I hope you will be able to help me with my problem.

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I reviewed your post and I understand that you are facing issues with the wireless connection on your computer.

Don’t worry, I assure you I will try my best to get this sorted.

I recommend you follow the below steps and check if it helps.

Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:

1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.

2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.

3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.

4. Restart your PC and test.

It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:

1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.

2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.

3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.

4. Restart your PC and test.

Disable the Power Off option for the adapter:

1. Open Device Manager. (Win Key+R > type devmgmt.msc > OK)

2. Expand the Network adapters.

3. Right click on the Ethernet/Wireless Adapter and click Properties.

4. Click the Power Management tab.

5. Remove the check mark beside Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

6. Click OK.

7. Test.

Let me know how it goes and you have a great day!

I have a brand new HP laptop, less than 4 months old.   It is very disconcerting and a major pain in the butt to loose WIFI connection  for no apparent reason. It just shuts itself off!!!!   My major issue is...how to reset a connection when I can't get to the internet to find a solution.  I can and do run troubleshooting to reset the WiFi adaptor.  Then usually get an error message stating there is an invalid IP-Configuration.  The WiFi disconnect does not happen with my smart tv, cell phone or ancient Dell laptop.  When is HP going to resolve this issue.

I have gone thru the steps listed.  My laptop is less than 4 months old.  When is HP going to fix this problem?

In order that I may provide you with an accurate solution, I will need a few more details and I would appreciate if you could, perhaps elaborate on your concern.

  • What is the exact model for your computer?
  • What is the operating system you are using?
  • Have you made any software or hardware changes on the computer?
  • What are the troubleshooting steps you have performed?

Look forward to hearing from you and you have a great day!

Thanks for getting back to me.

Hp Model: 15-BS123WM  Serial # CND9256KYS

Purchased in November 2019, with an extended 2 year warranty.

OS is Windows 10 that came installed with the laptop.

I have added AVG Internet security (paid version), CCleaner, Malwarebytes and Driver Max.

When the problem occurs, I run Windows trouble shooting which resets the WIFI adapter.  I then get an error message that states there is an WIFI IP address conflict. I then run the CMD function with the instructions you provided, go into DOS/correct the problem, and restart the laptop.  This does fix the problem temporarily, until the next disconnect.

My ISP provider is local, I have had them run diagnostics to ensure the problem is not on their side.  Please note, this does not happen on any other of my devices.

@Meri0809,

Do you use a dynamic IP address or static IP address?

As you have mentioned that the error on the computer says IP address conflict, it means that two devices on your network are getting the same IP address and it is causing the disconnection. Please check on all the other devices connected to the network once and I suggest you do a network power cycle.

Here is how it is done.

  1. Shut down all computers/Devices connected to the modem/router.
  2. Power down and unplug the modem and the router if you're using one.
  3. Allow to sit for 60 seconds unplugged.
  4. Plugin and turn on the modem and router, and allow them to completely boot up until the front panel connection lights on the modem show a steady connection.
  5. Start the computer and allow it to completely boot up.
  6. Then connect all the other devices one after the other.

If you continue facing the issue, then I recommend you uninstall the wireless driver from the device manager and then download and install it from the below link.

Here is how it is done.

1. Download the drivers from here but do not run them yet.

2. Go to your start screen/menu and type Device Manager.

3. Expand Network adapters.

4. Right click on the wireless adapter and choose Uninstall.

5. Run the downloaded drivers from step 1.

6. Restart your PC and test.

Cheers!
