Pavilion p61 40f PC
Microsoft Windows Vista (64-bit)

I just bought a new Pavilion with Windows 10, but I would like to use my old Pavilion p61 40f PC (currently with Windows Vista, but soon to be upgraded to Windows 7) in another part of my house, using Wi-Fi.  I've been getting the message "the capability of your network adaptor does not match the requirements of this network."  From what I gather I need to download PROWin64.exe to have a network adaptor that is compatible with Vista.  My problem is that I can't download it if I don't already have an internet connection.  Can it be downloaded onto a flash drive, and if so, how?

I have cable for both internet and TV and I have already tried unplugging the modem from my TV and connecting it using an ethernet cable to both a phone jack and the back of the computer, but still had no connection.

If it's not obvious, I'm a tech novice, so an explanation with as much detail as possible would be greatly appreciated.

The most likely scenario is that your wireless adapter does not support WPA 2 which is used by most newer routers. You might be able to change the router settings to use WPA, though it is considered  a little less secure than WPA2. Another solution would be to replace the wireless adapter with a new one-either internal or a usb type which simply plugs in.

I didn't know there was such a thing as a USB network adaptor.  I have ordered one on line and will let you know if it solves the problem. Thanks so much.

Yes!  I havn't yet gotten the hang of how to "accept as solution" and must have responded to my post rather than your reply.  I found a wireless adapter on sale for $14 ($20 including tax & shipping) and it woks perfectly!
