What doe it mean when a WI-FI adapter says
Dual Band 2.4GHz/300Mbps 5GHz/867Mbps.
Does this have anything to do with the mouther board.

Do you use USB adapter now ? Numbers simply mean 5GHz is faster, around 3 times faster in this case.
