This computer got deliverd today, brand new. I am experiencing frustratingly slow download speeds via browsers and just to check, stupid slow speeds via torrent. Max speed from HP driver mirror sites was 106kb/s MAX. When downloading VLC it timed out before finishing the massive 45mb file. And no the 7 year old laptop sitting next to it on the same network does not have any problems

What is the problem and why am I here facing problems like this the day that I forked 1500euro out for a brand new machine?

Hi,

The only thing I noticed is I quote "This computer got deliverd today, brand new"

then you started downloading apps like VLC.

Did you pay attention to windows updates? This will slow the internet connection down if Windows update is currently installing the update or upgrade.

Normally for brandnew computer it needs to dowload the latest updates first before your could feel its full potential. Make sure that all the updates were properly installed before compairing your old rig to your new laptop.

Note: Windows update will take time to install. 5-6 hours will do if you have fast internet connection

Yup, turns out I was basically stupid. My bad. Things were updating in the background and couldn't see it until embarrassingly late. I had all but burned my router before I figured it out. Nice machine btw

Hi,

Just be patient with the updates. When I updated mine it took whole day to finish the update :).. We all learn through mistakes.. Besides were all humans right 🙂

Good luck!
