How do i get the wifi antenna to turn on automatically at power-up on my HP G72 laptop? I just switched over to using the wifi all the time now and it's a pain having to remember to turn the antenna on every time I power it up.

To fix this problem, do the following:
Reinstall your Wi-Fi driver
According to users, you might be able to temporarily fix this problem by reinstalling your Wi-Fi driver. This is relatively simple, and you can do it by following these steps:
- Press Windows Key + X to open Win + X menu and choose Device Manager from the list.
- After Device Manager starts, you need to locate your Wi-Fi device. Right click the Wi-Fi device and choose Uninstall device from the menu.
- A confirmation message will now appear. Click on Uninstall to proceed.
- Restart the computer.
Try changing the group policy setting.
- Press Windows Key + R and enter gpedit.msc. Press Enteror click OK.
- In the left panel, navigate to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Internet Communication Management > Internet Communicating Settings. In the right panel, locate Turn off Windows Network Connectivity Status Indicator active tests and double click it to open its properties.
- Select Not Configured from the menu and click on Applyand OK to save changes.
By default, this policy is set to Not Configured, but for some reason it might become enabled on your PC, so we advise you to check your Group Policy settings.

Thanks for the suggestions. I tried both of them and neither one changed anything. I still have to wait until the computer is into the Windows startup and then hit the f12 key twice to enable the WiFi antenna (LED in the key changes from yellow to blue).
I had to install the group policy editor before I could run the gpedit.msc program but after I did and ran the program it showed that the setting you mentioned was already set at Not Configured.
Any other ideas?

Thank you for posting back.
Let's try uninstalling the wireless adapter from device manager and check.
- Use shortcut keys Win + X on Windows 10.
- Select Device Manager.
- Expand the entry. Right-click the network adapter and select Uninstall device.
- You may need to check the option Delete the driver software for this device, and then click the Uninstall button.
- Reboot the computer. (steps might be repeated please do not ignore)
Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance.

That's essentially the same thing that the previous agent suggested, except they didn't mention deleting the driver software. Anyway I did it again and also deleted the driver software this time. It did not fix the problem. After rebooting I still had to manually push the f12 button twice in order to turn on the WiFi antenna. I've also looked at the BIOS settings and didn't see any settings there for the WiFi. Any other ideas?

Let's perform a system restore,
System Restore returns your computer to the files and settings from the restore point. Your personal files and documents are not affected.

The oldest restore point I have is from 8/23/19 so I don't think a Restore will make any difference as that is from after I posted my original question.
Is it possible that this is just the way this machine is designed? You have to enable the WiFi antenna manually? Maybe it's a security thing?

Right click on the Start button and, in the menu that appears, click on Device manager.
Double click on the Network adapters section to expand it.
Figure out which of the adapters in the list that appears is your computer’s WiFi adapter and then right click on it. From the right click menu, click on Properties.
In the dialog that appears, click on the Power management tab to navigate to it. Uncheck the Allow this computer to turn off this device to save power. Click on OK.
Once the change is saved, your computer should start connecting automatically to WiFi networks that it remembers as soon as it wakes up from a shutdown, a restart or a simple sleep.
Keep me posted, how it goes!
