I have a 17c-3000 laptop. Wireless works fine but there is no Ethernet driver or option listed in the device manager or systems networking page. I've downloaded what seemed to be the latest drivers from the support page, but still no Ethernet connection capability. I have an adapter with a USB-c connection and other computers connect to the network when using that wire so the problem seems to be with the laptop.

Would appreciate any suggestions on how to connect via Ethernet.

According to the product specs the model series does not come with an ethernet port.

Normally, USB ethernet adapters are plug and play so if the one you have isn't showing up or working, there won't be any HP drivers for it.

You will have to contact the device manufacturer of the USB ethernet adapter you bought and see if they have drivers for it or can offer any suggestions to have it connect.

Paul,

Thank you for your quick response. You are correct the computer does not have an RJ-45 socket. I have two RJ-45 to USB adapters. One with a USB-A plug and one with a USB-C plug. Neither work. I was not aware that the adapters contained a network interface card that would require drivers. I thought they simply re-routed the pinouts from RJ-45 to USB.

The laptop clearly has a NIC since wireless works but I cant figure out how to enable a wired connection to work. My other computers show both Ethernet and WiFi under Network Settings. This computer does not. It only shows WiFi. I need assistance in enabling the Ethernet capability of the Network interface.

Thanks

You're very welcome.

Unfortunately, I don't know what the problem could be with both USB to RJ-45 ethernet adapters not working.

I'm assuming the specs indicated they were compatible with Windows PCs?\

Some are not, and some won't work with W11.

As I posted earlier, the RJ-45 adapters are normally USB plug and play and normally don't need drivers.

As you indicated, the device somehow transfers the RJ-45 ethernet connection to USB.

But I wouldn't have any idea how to solve the problem.
