When I plug in the CAT6 Ethernet cord into my laptop and test the Internet speeds, they are very very slow. I will do the same thing with my wife's laptop which is newer and her speeds are very high. With the WiFi connection my speeds are where they should be. It's just the Ethernet connection speeds that are slow and I can't figure out why.

The specs of your machine is

              https://support.hp.com/au-en/document/c03619178

It ONLY has  10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN (RJ-45 connector) that why it's slow. It also ONLY has  3 Universal Serial Bus (USB) 2.0 ports. My machine has USB 3.0 ports therefore I can use

And I've got 2 more USB 3.0 ports. In your case, you won't get much with USB 2.0 port. You may want to try.

Regards.
