ProBook 430 G6
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Hi,

I just got a brand new laptop yesterday, a HP Probook 430 G6 running Windows 10 Pro 64 bit.

I can connect to the internet via WiFi, but I can't connect with the Ethernet port. I have tried several different cables and updated all the systems and drivers, but it still just says "Network cable unplugged". When I try to use the Diagnostics and Troubleshooting, it just comes up with "An Ethernet cable is not properly plugged in or might be broken" even though I have tried several cables that work on other computers.

What can I do to make the Port work? Or is it simply faulty?

Thanks

Hi

Try the command   getmac

C:\>getmac

Physical Address Transport Name
=================== ==============
48-48-48-48-27 \Device\Tcpip_{WiFi}
B0-BB-AA-DD-EE-28 Media disconnected {Ethernet}
48-48-48-48-48-28 Media disconnected {BlueTooth}

CABLE

C:\>getmac

Physical Address Transport Name

B0-BB-AA-DD-EE-28 {Ethernet}
48-48-48-48-48-28 Media disconnected {BlueTooth}

Now Disable the WiFi and PING 127.0.0.1  and  13.107.4.52

C:\>ping 127.0.0.1

C:\>netsh lan show interfaces

Hi

So either it working, you got a ping, 1 out of 4 for the internet beacon,

Ping statistics for 13.107.4.52:
Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 1, Lost = 3 (75% loss),

OR it is not.

So next is (trimmed it down a lot)...

C:\>ipconfig -all

Windows IP Configuration

Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : laptop

Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : B......28
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.111(Preferred)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.1
DNS Servers . . . . . . . . . . . : 1.1.1.1
8.8.8.8

Wireless LAN adapter WiFi:

Media State . . . . . . . . . . . : Media disconnected
Connection-specific DNS Suffix . :
Description . . . . . . . . . . . : Realtek RTL8723BE 802.11 bgn Wi-Fi Adapter
Physical Address. . . . . . . . . : 48.....27
DHCP Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : Yes
Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

So you need to make sure the Ethernet port has some values like....

IPv4 Address. . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.0.111(Preferred)
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.255.0

I tried the ping 13.107.4.52 and now I don't get any pings back.

Still haven't had any luck playing around with the Ethernet settings.

Hi

I suggest 3 pings....

ping 127.0.0.1 is a loopback on the adapter it self, showing it it's there (sometimes when a WiFi is also present you can get a return for which adapter?)

Next is to the Router/Modem Default Gateway, 192.168.0.1 for me, yet again the presence of 2 adapters can muddy the waters.

Last is somewhere outside your home network like ping bbc.co.uk

Laptop:~ # ping bbc.co.uk
PING bbc.co.uk (151.101.64.81) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from 151.101.64.81 (151.101.64.81): icmp_seq=1 ttl=57 time=18.7 ms
64 bytes from 151.101.64.81 (151.101.64.81): icmp_seq=2 ttl=57 time=18.6 ms
64 bytes from 151.101.64.81 (151.101.64.81): icmp_seq=3 ttl=57 time=16.5 ms
64 bytes from 151.101.64.81 (151.101.64.81): icmp_seq=4 ttl=57 time=13.8 ms
^C
--- bbc.co.uk ping statistics ---
4 packets transmitted, 4 received, 0% packet loss, time 3005ms
rtt min/avg/max/mdev = 13.836/16.942/18.783/2.003 ms

The above is SuSE response rather than a Microsoft one, looks slightly different.

AND the correct ping is important, this one was was a disaster....

PING hp.com (15.73.192.108) 56(84) bytes of data.
^C
--- hp.com ping statistics ---
45 packets transmitted, 0 received, 100% packet loss, time 45044ms
