Hi

Please help me fix this frustrating issue.
The problem is related to the DNS server not responding, which causes my device to constantly lose internet connection.
Each time it happens, the outage usually lasts for 2 to 3 minutes, and during that time, my computer completely loses internet access regardless of the service I'm using.

Here’s what I’ve tried to fix it:

  1. Changed DNS to Google and Cloudflare — didn’t help
  2. Switched to a different Wi-Fi network — the issue still occurred and other devices working good, which likely means the problem is with my device
  3. Flushed DNS and renewed IP — the error happened again immediately after doing this
  4. Ran troubleshooting — got various messages like “Can’t reach the default gateway” or “The DHCP isn’t responding”; and in Event Viewer, it still shows error 1014 from the DNS client
  5. Updated to the latest driver from the official website
  6. Disabled IPv6 — but this doesn’t seem to be the root cause
  7. I don't use VPN
  8. When I restart, it disappears, but it's really inconvenient to have to reboot every time it happens.
  9. I tried using Wireshark, and the data shows that packets are being sent out but none are coming back whenever the error occurs. After a while, everything seems to fix itself and returns to normal.

Please help me resolve this issue. By the way, if I use a USB Wi-Fi adapter, is there a chance it could solve the problem

Thanks

For more details, my laptop is HP Laptop 15-fd0xxx, with Realtek RTL8852BE WiFi 6 802.11ax PCIe Adapter. I tried to turn on high performance and roll back to 10/2024 of the driver, if this help, i will leave this reply here
Update day 1: good

Your problem was probably not DNS but just a wifi connection issue. I experienced something similar. The first time you browse to a new web site the system looks in dns cache for the ip address of the domain your trying to reach. If it does not have the mapping between name and ip address then it issues a dns request to the dns server. The misleading part is that if the connection has dropped you will get a dns error but the wifi icon still shows connected. If you wait a bit you then see the wifi icon turn into a globe and you get the no connection error. The fact that you configured a custom dns server (8.8.8.8) sort of confirms it. Like you I had to go back to a previous driver. I installed 6001.15.152.0 on 6/3/25 to restore a stable wifi.

Hi Paul,

Yes, it happens in the following order: the internet connection is lost but it still shows that Wi-Fi is connected, then after a while it displays the globe icon, meaning the network is down, and then it returns to normal. I really hope rolling back the update for this network adapter will fix the issue. It's been six months since I bought the device, and it always gives me a headache whenever it occurs. I truly hope no one else experiences this kind of issue.

Update 2: it's bad, tried another driver version

I don't know if we are using the same driver but here is my system details. My laptop is a hp 15-fc0093dx with the Realtek RTL 8852be-vs wifi 6 802.11ax adapter. The driver that has been working for me is 6001.15.152.0 and it is in the Previous version package 1.0.0.248 Rev.S (OS is win 11 ver 24H2). Drivers 6001.15.155.1 and 6001.15.156.0 did not work and maybe driver 6001.15.154.0 (not sure of the date when my problem started). I understand there is a newer version (158), but I'm not interested in trying it until I see someone say that it worked.
