My HP Laptop has always been slower than previous laptops but I figured it was 8 ram it just didn't have speed. Lately I've been having trouble with facebook and now yahoo. Whenever I try checking emails, delete emails, trying to see facebook notifications all I get is that darn spinning wheel. It's even taking longer when I turn on the laptop. I've run Norton scans and they passed. I tried to do a factory reset but it failed. Any idea's. It's only 5 months old.

Unless you're struggling on 1GB of RAM, the memory will not be an issue.  If you have 2GB or more, you should not be experiencing any slowdown in performance.

What all the issues you mentioned have in common is accessing the Internet.  So, as a first step, I suggest you Google for Oookla speed test to determine your Internet speeds.  If those are a lot lower than your ISP is promising you, you need to contact THEM to determine why that is the case.

I ran into this same issue a while back and determined that Verizon was throttling me.  They claimed it was a router hardware issue and sent me a replacement router.  Funny thing -- the next day (BEFORE I received the router), my speeds were back up to normal.  Of course, they denied doing anything -- ISPs always do.

WAWood, Thank you for your advice. This morning I  reset my modem. I also attempted to access my Roku but it also showed no connection. I called Spectrum and went through the automated steps. We were able to sign on this time but speed still slow and still having issues with Facebook and yahoo. This afternoon I called again and spoke with a tech. He was helpful but......

He ran some tests and said the modem and router were both okay. He changed the setting on the router to automatic and it did help some. I now get more replies etc. on my FB home and messages and I can now highlight and delete my messages on Yahoo but I did have to switch it to the classic email version. Said to try that for awhile and call back if needed. He also said that their modems and routers meet industry standards but I may want to get a third part router.
