I keep getting the message 'unable to download updates' on the printer screen. After lengthy chat to HP agent it was ascertained this download was for Firmware Update. Further checks revealed that the Printer had already got the latest Firmware so assumed that was why kept getting message. Found a page that had 3 options . Auto download updates, stop auto updates, manual install updates. Unfortunateley the first Option was selected and the other 2 were greyed out and could find nowhere to 'ungrey'' them. Any suggestions?
This message blocks me from printing, I can OK it and it eventually disappears but it returns later!

Hi @Brijanhub1,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If you are experiencing issues with downloading firmware updates for your HP OfficeJet Pro 8024 All-In-One Printer, there are a few troubleshooting steps you can try.
- Check your internet connection: Ensure that your printer is connected to a stable and reliable internet connection. You can try restarting your router or connecting the printer to a different network if available.
- Restart the printer: Power off your printer, wait for a few seconds, and then power it back on. This simple step can sometimes resolve temporary software glitches.
- Update the printer manually: Instead of relying on the automatic update feature, you can manually download and install the firmware update for your printer from the HP support website. Visit the HP support page for your specific printer model and look for firmware updates. Download the latest firmware file and follow the instructions provided by HP to install it on your printer.
- Disable firewall or antivirus software temporarily: Sometimes, firewall or antivirus software can interfere with the download process. Temporarily disabling these security programs while attempting the firmware update might help. Remember to re-enable them afterward.
- Reset network settings: If the printer's network settings have become corrupted, resetting them can help resolve connectivity issues. On your printer's control panel, navigate to the network settings or wireless setup menu and look for an option to reset network settings. Follow the on-screen instructions to perform the reset, and then try downloading the firmware update again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for all your help but I now know what the problem is. I already have the latest version of Firmware but HP does not recognise that fact so it tries to download it again which it can’t do so I get the error message. To make matters worse if you go into advance settings there are 3 settings for firmware update, automatic download, which is the default option and has a dot against it, another option be advised there is an update to be downloaded and a third which is similar. Unfortunately all the options are greyed out so I cannot stop the auto download. Have spoken to HP Support but they have advised me there is a known problem that they are working on but don’t know when it I’ll be resolved.
if you know how you can stop auto downloads without going into Advanced Settings would be grateful

First of all apologies for not replying sooner,
I have contacted 3 different agents at HP, they have all failed to reset the Auto Update to prevent it trying to update firmware that is already updated. We have tried doing it from my Mac and the result is the same, all 3 options are greyed out to alter the Auto Update. If you try to change it via the screen on the Printer it advises you that "the person who set up the machine set the Auto Update' it doesn't tell you if you can reset it.
The lat 2 agents, both of whom spent a considerable amount of time attempting to reset it but failed. They acknowledged finally that it was a 'Global Problem'!!!
Any suggestions?
