Microsoft Windows 8.1 (32-bit)

My Granny has a HP Hewlett Packard computer that she has had for a couple of years.all of a sudden a box popped up in the middle of the computer saying something along the lines of "unable to locate gateway". She has tried everything to get it off of the screen but it won't go off. Her computer was running on windows 8.1 and she hadn't updated it.

Hi @Bryleelong07

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

I understand that you are getting unable to find the default gateway error, I am glad to assist you today.

I recommend you follow the below steps and check whether the issue is resolved.

Reset the TCP/IP settings on your PC:

1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.

2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.

3. In the window that opens type "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt" without quotes, and press enter.

4. Restart your PC and test.

It may also help to reset the winsock catalogue:

1. Go to your start screen/menu and type CMD.

2. Right click on the command prompt icon and chose Run as administrator.

3. In the window that opens type "netsh winsock reset" without quotes, and press enter.

4. Restart your PC and test.

Hope this helps!
