I have an HP laptop loaded with Google Play. I understand this is where I go to locate and download most software. But when I do that, and try to install software, it doesn't feel right!

Is there a set way of accessing software on this medium? Why does it seem mainly focussed on games (as a 70 year old male I have zero interest in this). And when I do search for and locate something I want, (e.g. a Family History programme) it asks me to "choose a device"- which I find surprising as I'm ON the device I want to download to??).

It also tells me the programme will be downloaded "soon".. (i.e. I would have thought it would be downloaded immediately.

Again, none of this feels right and I would welcome a referral to a site/ sites telling me how best to use Google Play!

Welcome to the HP English Community --

In general, Google Play is an app store for Android devices -- for example, a phone that runs Android as its Operating System.

What?

App Stores are designated according to the Operating System you are running on your device (computer, tablet, phone).

The application must be compatible with the Operating System.

HP sells an "HP branded" Chromebook -- the computer is a Chromebook with an HP logo emblazoned on the case (notebook cover).  What?  It's a way for both Google and HP to make money on devices that run Google's own Chrome OS software.  HP sells the hardware (and supports it while the device is in Warranty) -- Google runs the OS and benefits from the way the computer is used.
