Hi all,
just checking if there has been anyone able to get the intel 7260W wifi MPcie working in the Elitebook 8570W?  Its not listed in the manual, there appear to be posts that state it shouldnt work due to HP Whitelist on NW cards.

Machine shipped with the 6250, however recently purchased a 7260 to upgrade as its a dual antennae card. It has the "replace with HP spare" sticker so assume it should work.

Hi:

It may work.

I have found some indirect info where the card works in the 8570p.

Generally, this is the part number recommended:

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 Wi-Fi + BT 4.0    HP Part # 710661-001.

Now if you run into any issues with the Bluetooth not working watch this video:

Thanks,

Ended up swapping the cards out to test if it worked (worst case it wouldnt be seen) , it resulted in an upgraded system, no error, nothing seen in Device mgr.

I had seen other forum posts suggesting it wouldn't work, hence asking here (i don't know if the official HP part version is programmed / has relevant Device ID that allows handshake on it versus a non HP version). Might be why it worked out the box.

I was curious to try a BE200 wifi7 card, however i will stick with my Wifi4 -> Wifi5 upgrade as it has proven for me and others it will work keeping these machines going.

So confirmation a Elitebook 8570W - i7-3940XM - intel 7260HWM running win10 is possible

You're very welcome.

I'm surprised that there was no Unknown device showing up in the device manager because W10 doesn't natively have the Intel Bluetooth driver, and HP and Intel don't have it either.

If you want to experiment with a HMC form factor Intel AX210 let me know. I paid $25 for it two years ago.

I installed one in my HP 350 G1 notebook which comes with an Intel i3-4005U processor. I had previously upgraded it from the Broadcom N card it originally came with.

just an update, post a reboot, there was an unknown device seen in device manager, so i assume this is the aforementioned Bluetooth (ignore  that, its acpi hpq6000 3&b1bfb68&0 so HP drive guard), WIFI is working as im connected whilst typing this response.  Will run a speed test to verify, but happy its functioning in Win10.

In Device mgr, i see 6 BT elements (BT device (RFCOMM protocol  TDI, Broadcomm 20702 4.0 adapter and BT enumerator) so the fact its sees BT v4.0 is a good thing as OEM motherboard BT isnt 4.0. it is indeed working it seems at a device mgr level. Will try BT connections later on to verify it plays music  / takes calls etc..

If post BT connections  dont  connect (eg headset) I'll have to review that YT video to resolve the BT issue, but it seems visible in Device mgr at least.

i did find another post on the 7260 card, with the skydrive link to drivers, so i'll give them a go if i need to

SkyDrive - 7260 drivers

I did look at the AX210 or BE200 as an upgrade option but was looking at more stability versus bleeding edge wifi7. i'll keep my eyes peeled for either the 210 or the 200 cards, however with 2.4Ghz antenna in the machine i will have reduced 5ghz benefits without replacing the cable / antennae assembly. ( not impossible, just requires the screen being opened up

Yes, I had posted a link to share my SkyDrive folder with the last Intel Wi-Fi and Bluetooth drivers they released for the card.

I had the foresight to save them for my 7260AC at the time.

You can also use the BT driver from Dell:

Intel Bluetooth Driver | Driver Details | Dell US

Your PC has 2.4 GHz/5.0 GHz antenna wires.

This is the AX210 card I installed in my 350 G1:

I don't know what that metal plate was for.  I didn't need it.

Still $25

So double checking the specs, the machine does ship with a Broadcomm bt 4.0 card integrated into Mobo, but there’s no other “unknown device” seen by device manager. So might have been too early a celebration that the Bt elements were working, Nothing comes up as “new device detected” when I scan machine. The install goes ok using the skydrive 7260 drivers no errors. So I need to work out what 62205 had and what 7260 has in the list as I suspect all 6 BT elements listed in device mgr are a culmination of the onboard Mobo and the new 7260 card and device mgr doesn’t separate. Can anyone confirm the “upgraded” elements  to prove it’s working as BT.
thanks for confirming 2.4&5ghz antenna are present,

I was looking at the service manual and none of the supported cards offered in the model series were combination Wi-Fi/Bluetooth cards, so that probably means that the slot has no BT connection capability.

If your PC has the BT module, there is probably no point in masking pins 20 and 51 to see if the Intel BT shows up.

Checking the manual you linked, it states

HP Integrated Module with Bluetooth 2.1 Wireless Technology, (however other docs do show it came with 4.0 tech). So I can’t at present definitely confirm it’s the OEM BT onboard working or the new 7260 card BT. I agree according to the manual no dual technology cards existed when it was released. Doesn’t mean it isn’t/wont work but not seen any Bios errors or anything to suggest it’s not,

im not sure on pi outs without consulting Boardviewer file.
I was considering reviewing the device ID in the device manager window to ascertain what BT element was “seen” of the 6 and what was the underlying card it was coming from,

as the BT module OEM is built in, I don’t think it’s a “card” that could be unplugged like the HWM units, it’s a JST assembly so it might be disconnect able

HP Recommended

The OEM BT module is a flat, green stick-looking device that comes with a cable that unplugs from the system board, and the cable can be removed from the BT module.

I wouldn't bother with that and just remove the cable from the system board.

See chapter 4, of the manual page 70-71.

Here's a picture of the whole BT assembly on an eBay listing:

The easiest way to check which BT is working is to go to the device manager, click to expand the BT device manager category, and see what model BT adapter is installed.

It will be either Broadcom/HP or Intel.

You can also check the hardware ID for the device and see which one it is by googling the ID.
