HP EliteBook 840 G4
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I purchased my new laptop i.e. HP EliteBook 840 G4 and there is a SIM slot on the right side of the laptop. How would I know that the SIM slot is working because I inserted a SIM and it did not work. I checked the device manager and found a slot with the name other devices SIM/MMS without any driver. Unfortunately I did not find any driver for this device anywhere. I already tried installing LTE and broadband drivers but in vain. Please help

Hi:

You also need to have the required WWAN (mobile broadband card).

90% of those models do not come with that device.  It is a very expensive option.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for the reply. Please advise, how to check whether my laptop have a WWAN Card or not?

Also please find attached a screenshot of Device Manager showing MMS/SMS. What is this?

You're very welcome.

I have no idea what those devices are that you circled.

If your notebook has a WWAN adapter, it will be shown under the Network Adapters device manager category along with the ethernet and wireless network adapters.

It would be one of these two WWAN cards if your notebook has one.

HP lt4120 Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ X5 LTE Mobile Broadband Module;

HP hs3210 WW HSPA+ Mobile Broadband

Also check the BIOS to see if a WWAN card is present and enabled.

Some models have the cards turned off in the BIOS by default for some reason.

If you don't see such a listing in the BIOS, and you don't see one of the two above WWAN adapters listed under the Network Adapters device manager category, then your notebook is one of the many that do not have the optional WWAN module.

Hi Paul, thank you for your posts.

I wish to have one of those WWAN module in my 840-G4, is it possible to add it after-market?

The antenna cables are already there or need to be added as well?

Kind Regards to anyone who read and can answer me.
