HP ENVY 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-cr0000 IDS Base Model
Microsoft Windows 11

Hi, My HP Envy 17in had been experiencing blue screen of death crashes, but was still usable until today.

The wireless LAN and USB ethernet connected cable no longer work.

The option in the task bar to disable/enable WIFI is no longer visible.

In Device Manager, I could see Interl Wi-Fi 6E AX211 with status showing "The device is working properly".

Is there a way to reset/reinstall the WIFI driver to rule out HW being the issue?

I contacted HP support. The Rep said it's likely a SW issue rather than a HW issue. He said the laptop is out of warranty and there's a fee for them to fix it.

Thanks

Albert

@albertf, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 is visible in Device Manager and says it’s working properly, but Wi-Fi is not functioning, it’s likely a software issue. Here are steps to reset/reinstall the Wi-Fi driver and troubleshoot further:

Restart Network Services

  1. Press Win + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
  2. Locate and restart the following services:
    • WLAN AutoConfig
    • Network Connections
    • DHCP Client

Reinstall the Wi-Fi Driver

  1. Uninstall the driver:
    • Open Device Manager (Win + X → Device Manager).
    • Expand Network adapters.
    • Right-click Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211Uninstall device.
    • Check Delete the driver software for this device and confirm.
    • Restart your laptop.
  2. Reinstall the driver:
    • Windows should reinstall the driver automatically.
    • If not, manually download it from Intel’s official website:
      Intel Wi-Fi 6E AX211 Driver

Reset Network Settings

  1. Go to: Settings → Network & Internet → Advanced network settings → Network reset.
  2. Click Reset now, then restart your PC.

Check Hidden Devices in Device Manager

  1. Open Device Manager.
  2. Click ViewShow hidden devices.
  3. Expand Network adapters and see if any ghost drivers appear.
  4. Uninstall any duplicate or problematic Wi-Fi drivers.

Run Windows Network Troubleshooter

  1. Win + I → Settings → System → Troubleshoot → Other troubleshooters.
  2. Run Network Adapter and Internet Connections troubleshooters.

Check BIOS & Windows Updates

  1. Update BIOS & chipset drivers from HP support website:
  2. Ensure Windows is up to date:
    • Win + I → Update & Security → Windows Update → Check for updates.

Try an External USB Wi-Fi Adapter

If nothing works, test an external USB Wi-Fi adapter. If it works, the internal card may be faulty.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the detailed response.

Unfortunately, it seems the laptop is having more problem, and now, it could not boot up. I ran HP Diagnostic which reported no hard disk detected. Also memory test reported Memory error. I might need to ship it to HP to repair all the issues. Will contact again if I need further assistance.
