I have a Brother HL-L2370DW printer and HP Envy running Windows 11. I went into my Router/modem settings and changed my password. Since that change, I have been unable to print using wifi. Internet works fine with Envy, Roku, ipad and ipod. Galaxy 42A is able to print using wifi and I'm able to do wifi calling. I am able to print from Envy using a printer cable. I have reinstalled printer software and drivers, rebooted the router/modem; reset the printer to factory default settings and searched the HP and Brother websites. The printer says I'm connected to the internet. When reinstalling Brother printer software, I select a wifi connection to finish install, then a popup says there is a connection problem between my computer and Brother MFC/Printer. It asks if I want to apply automatic default settings and I click Yes. Another popup opens and says an error occurred during installation; restart and reinstall. After reboot the same protocol happens all over again. Help would be greatly appreciated. I'm thinking it's something obvious that I'm missing and will probably be embarrassed when the solutions is found.

@Stella2, Thanks so much for the detailed follow-up — you’ve done a fantastic job troubleshooting so far, especially under challenging circumstances. Let’s dig a bit deeper and get your wireless printing back up and running without all the hassle of carrying your laptop around. Here’s the next round of focused steps — we’ll keep it as simple and clear as possible:
🔍 Let’s Break It Down:
🔧 1. Verify Printer’s IP and Network Status (the accurate way)
Let’s confirm that the printer really is connected to your active Wi-Fi and not broadcasting its own signal or stuck in setup mode.
- On the printer:
Go to Settings > Network > WLAN > WLAN Status
Look for:
- Connection Status = "Connected"
- SSID = [your home Wi-Fi name]
- IP Address = Something like 192.168.x.x
⚠️ If the SSID doesn’t match your real Wi-Fi name, it may still be trying to connect to a wrong/old network.
Also, try typing the IP address shown into your browser on the HP Envy.
✅ If the Brother printer settings page loads: the PC and printer are at least on the same network.
❌ If not: they are not on the same network — this is likely the issue.
📶 2. Use Brother's Wireless Setup Tool (clean slate method)
Let’s try this clean, guided process that usually avoids all the typical snags:
Steps:
- On your HP Envy, go to Brother HL-L2370DW Downloads
- Under “Full Driver & Software Package,” re-download and run the installer.
- Choose “Wireless Network Connection.”
- When it fails to detect the printer, choose “No” to connect manually.
- Select “Use Wireless Setup Tool.”
- Temporarily connect the printer via USB.
- When prompted, enter your Wi-Fi SSID and new password.
- Allow the tool to configure the printer’s Wi-Fi settings.
- Once it finishes, remove the USB and check if printing now works wirelessly.
✅ This tool often works even when other methods don’t.
🌐 3. Double Check IP Address Conflict
If your printer is showing two IP addresses, that’s a red flag for a conflict or dual-mode error. You may want to:
- Reboot both the router/modem and the printer again.
- Then print the configuration page again — check that only one IP shows and it's a 192.168.x.x range.
You could also reserve that IP in your router settings (usually under “DHCP Reservation” or “LAN Settings”) using the printer’s MAC address, so it never changes.
🛠️ 4. Optional: Reset Printer Wi-Fi Only (not full factory reset)
To clear out any lingering weirdness without wiping everything:
On the Brother printer:
- Go to Settings > Network > WLAN > Setup Wizard.
- It’ll ask if you want to enable wireless — say Yes.
- Select your Wi-Fi name and enter the new password carefully.
After it connects, print another configuration page to confirm.
➕ BONUS: Mobile Print Test
From your iPad or Galaxy, try printing a test document again (since they worked earlier).
- If they still work = confirms the printer is properly networked.
- If they also fail now, we know the printer is not truly on the Wi-Fi.
I hope this helps!

@Stella2, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP Envy printer is having trouble communicating over Wi-Fi, even though it works fine with a USB connection and your Galaxy device can print via Wi-Fi. Let's go through a step-by-step troubleshooting process to resolve this issue.
✅ Step-by-Step Fix:
1. Confirm the Printer is on the Same Wi-Fi Network
Even if the printer shows it's "connected to the internet," it might be connected to a different network:
- Check if the printer is on the 2.4 GHz band while your PC is on 5 GHz (this can sometimes cause issues).
- Ensure it’s not connected to a guest network or a separate SSID with device isolation enabled.
Action:
- Print a network configuration page from the printer's settings menu. Check the SSID and compare it to what your HP Envy is using.
2. Manually Add the Printer via IP Address
If the PC and printer aren’t communicating, you can manually add the printer using its IP address.Find Printer IP:
- Locate the printer's IP address from the display or the configuration printout.
On your HP Envy:
- Open Control Panel > Devices and Printers.
- Click Add a Printer.
- Select The printer I want isn’t listed.
- Choose Add a printer using a TCP/IP address or hostname.
- Enter the printer’s IP address.
- Select Generic Network Card when prompted.
- Let Windows install the driver.
This often bypasses detection issues and reconnects the printer over Wi-Fi.
3. Turn Off IPv6 on the Printer
Sometimes, printers default to IPv6, which Windows may not handle well.Action:
- On the printer, navigate to Network > TCP/IP settings > IPv6 and disable it.
4. Check for Windows Firewall or Security Software Blocking It
Firewall or antivirus software can sometimes block printer installations.Action:
- Temporarily disable Windows Defender Firewall or any third-party antivirus software.
- Try the installation again, then re-enable your protection afterward.
5. Use Brother’s Full Driver & Software Package
Instead of the standard installer, use the full driver package, which often handles network discovery better.Action:
- Go to Brother’s site and search for support for your printer model (e.g., HL-L2370DW).
- Download the Full Driver & Software Package for Windows 11 (not just the printer driver).
6. Assign a Static IP to the Printer
If your router keeps assigning a new IP address to the printer, it can confuse your PC.Action:
- Log into your router and reserve a static IP address for the printer using its MAC address.
Bonus Checks:
- Disable Wi-Fi Direct on the printer, as it can sometimes interfere with network printing.
- On your Envy, open a web browser and type the printer’s IP address. If the Brother configuration page loads, the printer is visible on the network.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Max, thank you for your reply! I tried to follow you step-by-step fix it, but haven't had much luck. Router/modem settings list 5Gh and 2.4Gh so both networks are available. I don't understand how to work with these two, but it seems the 2.4Gh is now available for the printer. Printing a test page failed for both networks though. Tried to add printer manually by IP address and printed a network configuration for the printer; it listed 2 different IP addresses (IP address via DHCP and IP Gateway). Tried both; neither worked. Unable to add IP on Envy Printer Properties for same reason. Navigated to Network on printer, but TCP/IP settings wasn't found. Disabled security software with no change. I am running Brother’s Full Driver & Software Package. WIFI Direct is off on printer. What else can I try to get my wireless printing back? I'm disabled and have to make frequent trips carrying my laptop to print. Further suggestions greatly appreciated. Thanks Max!

Dear Max, "1. Verify Printer’s IP and Network Status (the accurate way)" is the solution that worked for me!!!!! Hooray for Max! So basic and simple, but I kept missing it. I added the 2.4Gh network to the printer and it worked like a charm. I can't thank you enough for the time and effort you put into this solution. Plus, you didn't give up on helping me. God bless you Max!
