The ethernet adapter it has is a 10/100BASE-T Ethernet LAN, which means that it has a maximum throughput of 100 MBPS.
That is why installing a CAT 6 ethernet cable did not change the throughput.
If you want to come close to gigabit ethernet speeds, you can purchase a USB to RJ-45 gigabit ethernet adapter and plug it into your notebook's USB 3 port.
