My laptop is showing a black screen, with only the caps lock light on which holds the light, and then blinks twice every 30 seconds or so.

I’ve tried all of the methods such as holding the power button, doing the ctrl + shift + windows button + b trick, etc, it hasn’t worked.

The problem is, the laptop doesn’t fully turn off - when I hold the power button , eventually the caps lock light will go off but as soon as I release the power it comes back.

Please help!

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your HP laptop—seeing a black screen!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

The issue you're experiencing with your HP laptop—seeing a black screen and the Caps Lock light blinking twice—indicates a BIOS-related error. This error often suggests the BIOS recovery code is unable to find a valid BIOS recovery image. Below are some recommended steps to troubleshoot and potentially resolve this issue:

Blinking Light Codes

The Caps Lock light blinking twice corresponds to a specific error: BIOS recovery code unable to find valid BIOS recovery image.

Potential Solutions

  1. Hard Reset:

    • Turn off the computer completely.
    • Disconnect all external devices like USB drives, external monitors, and docking stations.
    • Unplug the AC adapter.
    • If the battery is removable, take it out.
    • Press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain residual power.
    • Reconnect the battery (if removed) and the AC adapter.
    • Turn on the computer.
  2. BIOS Recovery:

    • Since the blinking indicates a BIOS recovery issue, attempts to update or restore the BIOS might be necessary.
    • Download the latest BIOS update from the official HP website using another computer.
    • Follow the provided instructions to try and install the BIOS via a USB drive if the system does not boot into Windows.
  3. Reseat Connections:

    • In some instances, reseating internal components like the memory modules can help.
    • Warning: Ensure the power is fully disconnected and proceed with caution during any hardware checks or reseating.
  4. HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI):

    • Utilize this tool to perform system tests if the laptop can initiate BIOS Diagnostics. Press the Esc key repeatedly after turning on the computer, then press F2 to access the diagnostics.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
