HP Laptop wifi very slow

Wifi speed running very slow.  Router speed is 100/114 mbps, device speed 50/50 mbps.  Network adapter (Realtek rtl8723de 802.11b/g/n) running with latest driver.  Checked speed within 10 ft of router, no change.  Connecting with ethernet cable seems to be only way to get router wifi speed, which defeats the purpose.  Network adapter does not work on 5G, only recognizes 2.4 ghz.  Can the device wifi speed equal the router speed?  Appreciate suggestions.

That's right, its wireless adapter only supports 2.4GHz networks. You can use

The first one requires 2 antennas.

There is only one dual band AC wifi card you can upgrade to when your notebook only has one antenna wire and that is this one...

The card will have the same 72 MBPS throughput as the RTL8723BE on the 2.4 GHz wifi band, but on the 5.0 GHz wifi band, it will have a max throughput of 433 MBPS when you have an AC router with an excellent wifi signal strength.

While the Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 9461 wifi card works with one antenna wire, it will only work in notebooks that had originally come with that model card.

Thanks for the response.  Is there any way to improve my speed with the setup I have?  Is there something wrong with by wifi adapter?  My router is running at 100/114mbps and other devices (laptops & phones) are showing wifi speeds of 98-100 mbps when testing at Fast.com, except for my HP laptop which is running at 35-50 mbps.

35 - 50 MBPS out of 72 MBPS max is pretty much normal for that model wifi card.

You could update the wifi driver to the latest version, but that's about it.
