In my laptop HP-15-G-206AX with Win 8.1 1 language, This laptop wifi is losing the connection frequently and some time not even connecting. It is showing as the Limited Network.
It's not happening for only one network, For every network when i'm trying to connect it is showing the same problem ("Limited Network").
We tried updating drivers for Broadcom BCM43142 WLAN adapter. This laptop has AMD A8 processor and after recent updates from HP support assistan, we started getting this issue so not sure which update has caused this problem.
Do we have to update OS to Win 10 or get the right Broadcom BCM43142 driver?
Additional info. This laptop was able to connect our Dlink 816 router earlier with 2G band without any issue, with latest driver update do this laptop need to connect to 5G band of wifi router? We even tried that but had same frequent connnection loss.

Hi @tusharp206
It looks like you were interacting with Raj1788, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out. I'm KrazyToad & I'm at your service.
Let's update the Wireless Driver from Device Manager.
- In Windows, search for and open Device Manager.
- In the list of devices, look for Network Adapter > Expand the list
- Right-click the wireless driver and select Update Driver Software.
- Click Search automatically for updated driver software.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to install the updated driver.
- Restart your computer to complete the installation of the updates.
Also update the BIOS from Here
If the issue persists, please backup your data and perform the System Recovery.
- Turn off the Notebook.Disconnect all connected devices and cables such as Personal Media Drives, USB drives, printers, and faxes.
- Turn on the Notebook and repeatedly press the F11 key about once every second until the Choose an option screen is displayed, and then continue.
- On the Choose an Option screen, click Troubleshoot.
- On the Troubleshoot screen, click Recovery Manager.
- Under Help, click System Recovery.
- When Recovery Manager prompts you to back up your files, select a backup option:
- The Welcome to HP Recovery Manager screen is displayed. Read the on-screen information, and then disconnect any connected devices and cables, such as Personal Media Drives, USB drives, printers, and faxes.
- Remove media from internal drives, and remove any recently added internal hardware.
- Click Next to continue.
- When recovery preparation is complete, click Continue to proceed to the installation phase of the recovery process. The computer restarts several times during the recovery. This is normal. Do not close, shut down, or disconnect the computer while HP Recovery runs.
- Recovery Manager reformats the Windows partition and reinstalls the original software.
- After the system recovery is complete, click Finish to restart the computer. Complete the setup screens and wait until the computer finishes the setup.
- Once the setup is complete, turn off the computer, reconnect all devices and cables, and then turn on the computer.
- Before using the computer, update and protect your computer by reinstalling any virus and security software that was installed before the system recovery.
- Reinstall any software programs that were added after purchasing the computer, as well as any files that were backed up.
Keep me posted how it goes.
Thank you. 🙂

Hi @tusharp206,
Welcome to HP Forums,
This is a great place to get support, find answers and tips,
Thank you for posting your query, I'll be more than glad to help you out 🙂
I understand that you have an issue with the wireless connectivity.
Don't worry I'll be glad to help, however, to provide an accurate resolution, I need a few more details:
Are you facing this issue after an update?
Here's a guided troubleshooter that will help fix this issue: Click here
Try these steps:
Go to Device manager > select the WIFI drivers under network adapter> Right click go to properties > Under properties go to Power Management Tab> Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
If the issue persists, continue with the below steps:
-
If your computer has a wireless key or button on or near the keyboard and the wireless activity light is off or amber in color, then press the key or button to enable your wireless adapter. This key might be the F10 key, F12 key or labeled with a symbol of an airplane.
-
If wireless activity comes on or the activity light turns blue, you have enabled wireless on your system. Try connecting to the Internet again. If problems persist, continue using these steps.

Thanks for your reply and help. Unfortunately my problem is not solved. I tried numerous ways.
Using HP Support assistant tool, by installing various WLAN adapter drivers. but it connects with my dual band wifi router for some time max upto 15 min and then loses the connection showing no internet connection symbol. And it may keep my laptop in unresponsive state some time
I googled many articles for BCM43142 wlan adapter.. it has issues with Win 8.1 on many HP and other laptops.
I am yet to try the Win 8.1 recovery mode and see. but has to take huge time for backup..
Can I use external wifi dogles to receive wifi signals and keep working on laptop for internet browsing? Any suggestion.
