Dear Support!

Does my computer (SN: 5CG9033RTB) support sim card use? There is a sim card slot in the nootbook, but cellular connection is not working properly.

Thank you for your help,

Peter

Hi, Peter:

All HP Probook 640 G4's have a SIM card slot.

What 90% of them don't come with is the optional and expensive WWAN network adapter that is required to connect to a cellular network.

The SIM card just authorizes you to use the network.

According to the parts list for your notebook, it does not support mobile broadband networking, since the WWAN adapter is not listed there.

HP PartSurfer

If your notebook has the two WWAN antenna wires present where the WWAN adapter is not installed, you may be able to add one and then have the mobile broadband option.

Below is the link to the service manual.

HP ProBook 640 G4 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide

Chapter 3 has the supported WWAN adapter with its HP part number.

That is the only one that will work, and if you buy one, it must have the HP part number on it.
