HP Pavilion x360 m Convertible
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

As of recently, my HP Pavilion x360 m Convertible will constantly (At random) disconnect from whatever wireless network I am connected to without reason. The signal strength is full bars 100% when this occurs and it occurs when using the machine or just simply sitting idle. Sometimes I can be connected fine for close to an hour while other times (More frequently) it disconnects roughly every 1-5 minutes.

Troubleshooting completed:

I have updated, rolled back, re-installed drivers, used various known working networks both next to router and far away, ensured that no other devices were connected to the same network during the disconnect, hard restart, normal restart, ran hardware diagnostics, disabled windows firewall, ensured no anti-virus was interfering, turned off the feature that disables the wifi adapter when computer goes to sleep/off, verified no other wireless devices are experiencing any type of network issue, ensured there were no Windows/Driver updates that were needed, and I cannot figure out why it is doing this all the sudden.

Network Adapters currently installed on machine under device manager:

- Bluetooth Device (Personal Area Network)

- Bluetooth Device (RFCOMM Protocol TDI)

- Realtek RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCle Adapter

- WAN Miniport (IKEv2)

- WAN Miniport (IP)

- WAN Miniport (IPv6)

- WAN Miniport (L2TP)

- WAN Miniport (Network Monitor)

- WAN Miniport (PPPOE)

- WAN Miniport (PPTP)

- WAN Miniport (SSTP)

Welcome to HP forums, I see that wireless connection on your notebook keeps disconnecting.

Have you attempted to update the WiFi drivers using the HP Support Assistant?

If you've tried and yet, could not get any update from HPSA, you could access this link to get some latest drivers: Click here

Please also try below step to see it will improve the issue:

1. Open Device Manager

2. Open Network adapters

3. Locate and right-click the Wi-Fi Adapter and then left click on Properties

4. Click Power Management tab

5. uncheck the check mark on "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save the power" and then hit OK

If the issue persists, please run a hardware test on the Wireless card to identify the issue: Click here for steps.

Let me know if that helps.

To thank me for my efforts to help you, please mark my post as an accepted solution so that it benefits several others.

Cheers.

Thanks for the reply.

I appreciate your time and effort.

Just wanted to check if you have run the test on the wireless card.

If you have run the test and it has passed, In that case, I would suggest the only option would be to perform a system reset

Alternatively, you can also try to use a USB dongle.

Cheers.

Sandy,

So you are telling me that the brand new (less than 2 months old) HP laptop I just purchased already needs a system reset? I will definitely try that but if that doesn't work, based on your response, you are asking the customer to spend additional money to attempt a fix on a product just purchased when it has not worked as described???

Shouldn't this be handled by the HP Manufacturer warranty?

I will attempt the factor reset even though it isn't 2 months old and let you know if it fixes the issue.

Thank you for your time.

Thank you for responding,

It's great to have you back 😉

It looks like you were interacting with @sandytechy20, but he is out for the day & I'll be glad to help you out,

What was the test results?

How does the Wi-Fi symbol look on the taskbar? Does it have a red X or a yellow exclamation?

If you haven't performed Reset on your notebook yet, here are a few more steps you could try to resolve the issue:

Temporarily disable the firewall software

Temporarily disable the firewall software on your computer to see if it is interfering with the Internet connection speed.

  1. Right-click the taskbar icon associated with your firewall software and select Disable firewall or similar.
  2. After disabling the firewall, test the Internet connection performance. If there is still a problem continue to the next step.
  • If the connection is still slow, then the firewall is not part of the problem.
  • If the connection is faster, then adjust the firewall settings or use a different firewall.

Update the BIOS (notebook PCs): Follow steps from the link: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c00042629.

Use the Network and Internet Troubleshooter (Windows 10)

The Network and Internet Troubleshooter tests the network for problems and attempts automatic repairs for any issues found.

  1. Right-click the wireless connection icon in the notification area, then select Troubleshoot problems. The Windows Network Diagnostic window opens and the troubleshooting process begins.

Let me know how this goes,

Thanks for your time and efforts 🙂
