HP Pavilion Laptop PC 15-eg0000 (172Z8AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

I have always enjoyed the "Link to Windows" android app on my Samsung Galaxy phone to connect via Bluetooth with my HP Pavillion laptop.  My previous phone was a Galaxy A32 which always connected smoohthly. I have now replaced the A32 with a new S24FE.  Pairing the new phone over bluetooth with the Pavillion went smoothly and the connection is established but shuts off after merely a second or so. I updated the Link to Windows android app on my phone and checked that the bluetooth drivers and Link to Windows service on the PC were up to date. But the problem remains.  The phone connects over bluetooth with my car without a problem, so I guess the problem resides in the HP or Windows 11.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hi @RudiGdw,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

The issue seems to lie in the Bluetooth connection between the HP Pavilion laptop and the Samsung Galaxy S24FE when using "Link to Windows." Here’s a step-by-step guide to troubleshoot and resolve the problem.

Unpair and Re-Pair Devices

  • On your HP Pavilion:
    • Go to Settings > Bluetooth & devices.
    • Find your S24FE under "Paired devices" and click Remove device.
  • On your Samsung Galaxy S24FE:
    • Go to Settings > Connections > Bluetooth.
    • Find your Pavilion under "Paired devices" and tap Unpair.
  • Restart both devices and pair them again.

Reset the "Link to Windows" App

  • On your Samsung S24FE:
    • Open Settings > Apps.
    • Search for "Link to Windows".
    • Tap Storage > Clear Cache and Clear Data.
    • Reconfigure the app and re-establish the connection with your HP Pavilion.

Update Bluetooth Drivers on the Pavilion

Ensure your Bluetooth drivers are up to date:

  1. Update via Windows Update:
    • Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and check for updates.
  2. Manually Update Drivers:
    • Right-click the Start button and select Device Manager.
    • Expand Bluetooth.
    • Right-click your Bluetooth adapter (e.g., Realtek, Intel, or Qualcomm) and select Update Driver.
    • Choose Search automatically for drivers.
    • If the issue persists, visit HP’s support page and check for updated Bluetooth drivers.

Disable Bluetooth Power Management

Sometimes, Windows power management features turn off Bluetooth to save power.

  1. Go to Device Manager.
  2. Expand Bluetooth.
  3. Right-click your Bluetooth adapter and select Properties.
  4. Navigate to the Power Management tab.
  5. Uncheck Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

Test a Fresh User Profile on Windows

Create a new user profile on your HP Pavilion:

  • Go to Settings > Accounts > Family & other users.
  • Add a new user account, log in to the new account, and test the Bluetooth connection.

Adjust Windows Firewall/Antivirus Settings

Sometimes, the firewall or antivirus settings interfere with connections:

  • Temporarily disable your firewall or antivirus and test the connection.
  • If it works, add "Link to Windows" as an exception.

Alternative Troubleshooting

  • Test Without Link to Windows:
    • Try connecting your phone as a regular Bluetooth device (not via "Link to Windows").
    • If this works, the issue might specifically relate to the "Link to Windows" app.
  • Reset Network Settings on S24FE:
    • Go to Settings > General Management > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
    • Reconfigure Bluetooth and WiFi.

If none of the above resolves the issue, you might want to check for compatibility issues with Windows 11 and the S24FE.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
