Has anyone had several or more of the following conditions with their laptop?

  • Wi-Fi adapter AC 7260
  • Driver 18.33.14.3
  • A very fragile network, and losing connection several times per day
  • Many files of many MB being regularly created in usr/temp, and requiring regular deletion.

I have been trying to stabilise my PC for years and found several problems, only to realise that I had missed a faulty Wi-Fi driver. Just to add insult to injury, this driver was always reinstated by Win Update if I ever tried another version. I found a Group Policy in the GPE which prevents update from changing the driver on this device, and after five years I have a stable network connection using driver 17.15.0.5

Hi:

I have the same card in a HP 350 G1 business class notebook, currently running W10 Pro 21H1.

I have never experienced any driver issues with it.

I am using the last W10 driver Intel released for the card...18.33.17.1  4/29/2019.

Intel® PROSet/Wireless Software and Drivers for Intel® Wireless 7260 Family

Windows Update has not tried to remove this driver.

Thank you for responding

This is specific to 18.33.14.3

For my laptop, that is the latest driver via Windows update. When I tried downgrading and prior to the the group policy, Windows Update upgraded it silently. It took me a while to discover this, and it explained why shortly after the downgrade, Wi-Fi began failing again.

And this also happened when I used the Intel SSU to update the driver, although in that case the drivers where not supported by HP. There where multiple faults with my laptop which I didn't realise, so I was applying the wrong fixes. And with Win Update changing drivers without me knowing added to the problem.

It may be that some the drivers from Intel do actually work. I now have a stable PC but after 5 years of trouble, I would like to just get on with some work unhindered.

It should also be noted that the drivers of the same version number from HP and Intel may well be different. But HP hasn't published that fact or differences if they exist.

The aim of this post is to find anyone with the listed issues and configuration to prove a point to Intel.
