Hi , I have a HP S6500 Speaker. I bought it 7 years ago. I initially used it few times (it worked fine) and then kept it back.
I again started using it after 7 years.  When I am trying to charge now Its not charging neither working. I connected it to different power sources and different cables also. Its still the same.

What are the possible problems?
How do I identify the root cause?

Hi @Barath27,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

Given that your HP S6500 Speaker has been unused for 7 years, there are several potential reasons why it's not charging or working. Here are the possible problems and steps you can take to identify the root cause:

Possible Problems:

Battery Degradation:

  • Lithium-ion batteries, which are commonly used in such devices, can degrade over time, especially if left unused for extended periods. The battery may have lost its ability to hold a charge.

Corroded or Damaged Charging Port:

  • If the speaker was stored in a humid environment, the charging port might have corroded, leading to poor or no connectivity when trying to charge.

Faulty Charging Cable or Adapter:

  • Even though you’ve tried different cables and power sources, if the charging port is damaged, it might not be making proper contact, leading to no charge.

Internal Component Failure:

  • Over time, other internal components like the power management IC, charging circuitry, or capacitors could have failed, preventing the device from charging or turning on.

Firmware or Software Issues:

  • It’s rare, but sometimes, a device that has been off for a long time may have firmware issues that prevent it from powering on correctly.

Please find the remaining steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @Barath27,

Please find the remaining steps below.

Steps to Identify the Root Cause:

Visual Inspection:

  • Inspect the charging port for any visible signs of corrosion or damage.
  • Check for any physical damage to the speaker or the charging components.

Leave It Connected to Power for an Extended Time:

  • Sometimes, when a battery is deeply discharged, it needs to be connected to a power source for an extended period (several hours) before it shows any signs of life. Leave it plugged in for at least 4-6 hours.

Use a Different, Known Working Cable and Adapter:

  • Even if you’ve tried different cables, make sure to use a high-quality cable and adapter that you know are working with other devices. Some older devices might be finicky with the type of charging cable used.

Check for Heat:

  • While connected to power, feel the speaker to see if it gets warm. If it does, it indicates that the battery is drawing power but might not be holding it due to degradation. If it remains completely cold, there might be an issue with the charging circuit.

Attempt a Reset:

  • Some Bluetooth speakers have a reset function. Check the user manual for a combination of button presses to reset the speaker. This might help if there’s a software-related issue.

If the battery has indeed degraded beyond recovery, replacing the battery might be necessary. However, given the age of the speaker, finding a replacement battery or deciding whether it’s worth repairing might be challenging.

If you’re unable to determine the cause on your own, consider taking it to a professional repair shop. They can open the device and check for internal issues like battery degradation or component failure.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance
