When my Spectre is wired in my house it maxes out at <100 Mbps, thought I have Gigabit service. I've narrowed it down to this use case, given I've tested others:
- Wifi on Spectre: gives me 300-500Mbs
- Wired on Other laptops: reaches up to 800 bps
Anyone else had (and solved) this issue? a hw issues
- I've tried different adapters and docking stations ( all of which give the proper speed on other laptops).
- I've updated windows and drivers

Hi @Khalif81,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your HP Spectre x360 laptop is only getting a wired connection speed of 100 Mbps when you expect it to be higher, there are several possible reasons for this. Here are some troubleshooting steps you can follow.
- Check your Ethernet Cable: Ensure that you are using a high-quality Ethernet cable (Cat5e or Cat6) that is capable of supporting Gigabit speeds (1,000 Mbps). Sometimes, a faulty or older cable can limit your connection speed.
- Router and Switch Compatibility: Make sure that your router and any network switches you are using are also Gigabit-capable. If they only support 100 Mbps, your laptop will be limited to that speed.
- Network Port on Laptop: Ensure that you are connecting your laptop to a Gigabit-capable Ethernet port on your laptop. Some laptops have both Gigabit and 100 Mbps Ethernet ports, so make sure you are using the correct one.
- Driver Updates: Check for updated network drivers for your laptop. Sometimes, outdated drivers can limit your network speed. You can usually find these updates on the HP website or through Windows Update.
- Check Network Settings: Go to your network settings in Windows and make sure that your network adapter is set to use the maximum speed available (1.0 Gbps or 1,000 Mbps).
- Network Configuration: If you are in a corporate or managed network environment, the network administrator may have imposed speed limits on certain ports or devices. Contact your IT department for assistance.
- Other Devices: Make sure no other devices on your network are consuming bandwidth, which could slow down your connection.
- Virus or Malware: Run a malware scan on your laptop to ensure that there are no malicious programs consuming your bandwidth.
- Hardware Issues: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, there could be a hardware problem with your laptop's network adapter or the port on your laptop.
By following these steps, you should be able to identify and address the issue causing your HP Spectre x360 to have a limited wired connection speed.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Hi @Alden4 Thanks for the response.
re: Network Settings / Hardware on Laptop -- What's the best way to find/determine the maximum speed for a port?
I am going through USB and adapters, but I've tried all 3: USB A, USB C, and thunderbolt. I've also tried several adapters and docking stations that all work with other laptops.
I've tried nearly all of these to no avail. Other laptops with the same setup get max speed so that rules out these.
- Check your Ethernet Cable
- Router and Switch Compatibility:
- Network Configuration
- Other Devices:
Driver Updates: Done multiple times. Did not help
Virus or Malware: Scanned multiple times and have active protection from Norton.
