HP Sure Click creating an unexpected local Administrator / Remote Desktop user?

Hi @XW1979

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand your concern regarding an unexpected local Administrator or Remote Desktop-related user account appearing on your HP EliteBook 840 G6 after using HP Sure Click.

Based on HP Sure Click's intended functionality, it is designed to isolate potentially unsafe content in protected virtual containers and does not normally require the creation of a visible local Administrator account for everyday operation. The information currently available for HP Sure Click focuses on application isolation and security containment rather than creating local Windows administrator accounts.

To help determine whether the account is related to HP Sure Click or another Windows/security component, we recommend the following checks:

Open Windows Computer Management:

  • Right-click Start.
  • Select Computer Management.
  • Navigate to Local Users and Groups > Users.
  • Note the exact username that appeared.

Check the account properties:

  • Double-click the account.
  • Review:
    • Description
    • Group Membership
    • Date created

Verify HP Sure Click status:

  • Open HP Sure Click.
  • Check whether the application is installed and functioning normally.
  • Review any recent HP security software updates that may have been installed through HP Image Assistant, HP Support Assistant, or your organization's device management tools.

Review local group membership:

  • In Computer Management, open Groups.
  • Check:
    • Administrators
    • Remote Desktop Users
  • Confirm which accounts have been added to these groups.

Update HP security components:

  • Install the latest BIOS and security software packages available for the HP EliteBook 840 G6 from HP support resources.
  • Restart the notebook after the updates complete.

At this stage, it would be helpful to know the exact name of the newly created account and whether it appears under the Administrators group, the Remote Desktop Users group, or both. That information can help determine whether the account is associated with HP security software, Windows components, or enterprise management policies.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
