How to know if wifi module is dead and needs a replacement / upgrade

I'm facing issues with wifi connectivity, as it has dropped drastically in last few days and now it showing one bar in signal strength and mostly unable to connect to internet.

I have repaired and reinstalled the wifi driver, but it didn't help.

I would like to know if I need to replace the wifi card and if possible upgrade to 5GHz.

Unless the wifi antenna has broken somehow, the card is probably on its way out.

The antenna goes from the display panel into the body of the notebook, so opening and closing the lid could have damaged the antenna wire over time.
