HP 17.3 inch Laptop PC 17-c3000 (767L5AV)

Hi All,  I purchased this new 17" Laptop and my wifi speed is only 350-400 mbs when I am getting 1 gig coming to the router.  My link speed is 600.  Is there a way to raise this?  I have Windows 11 Home.  I have done all the driver updates.  My wife has the same computer and she gets 1201 link speed and wifi speed of 800-900.  TIA for any help.

Hi @murf22,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you have a brand new HP 17" Laptop that is not reaching the expected Wi-Fi speed while another identical laptop is performing better, follow these steps to troubleshoot and improve your Wi-Fi speed:

1. Check Your Network Adapter's Capabilities:

  1. Open Command Prompt (Press Win + R, type cmd, and hit Enter).
  2. Type:  netsh wlan show interfaces
  3. Look for "Receive Rate (Mbps)" and "Transmit Rate (Mbps)".
    • If your link speed is 600 Mbps, your Wi-Fi adapter may not support full Gigabit Wi-Fi.

2. Ensure Your Laptop is Using the 5GHz Band:

  1. Press Win + X → Select "Device Manager".
  2. Expand "Network Adapters" and find your Wi-Fi adapter (e.g., MediaTek or Realtek Wireless Adapter).
  3. Right-click → Select Properties → Go to the Advanced tab.
  4. Look for "Preferred Band" and set it to "5GHz only".
  5. Click OK and restart your laptop.

3. Update Your Wi-Fi Drivers Manually

Even if Windows says your drivers are up to date, it's best to manually check: HP Website

4. Adjust Wi-Fi Power Management Settings

  1. Open Device Manager (Win + X → Select Device Manager).
  2. Expand Network Adapters → Right-click your Wi-Fi adapter → Select Properties.
  3. Go to Power Management tab.
  4. Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".
  5. Click OK.
