My much loved HP 6950 printer has lost its wifi printing connection.  Scanning works as does usb.  I have tried everything that HP assistance says as well as Print doctor.  I have reinstalled everything  printer software wise as well as removing last windows update.  Can anyone help please?  The printer works from on old laptop still!

Does the copy works?

Try assigning a manual IP. Refer to this video link for step by step instructions.

If the issue still persists, try adding a TCP/ IP port -

1) Print a Network Configuration Report from the Printer Settings or Wireless menu.
2) Right-click your printer, select Printer Properties, click the Ports tab and then click Add Port.
3) Select Standard TCP/IP Port, and then click New Port.
4) Follow the instructions to add a new port using the information listed on the Network Configuration Report.
5) Try printing.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware. Refer to this document for steps - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

@johnadudley, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Let us try these steps to resolve this issue:

Check if the PC is connected to a 2.4GHz network. This printer works only on a 2.4GHz band.

Both these devices should be connected to the same network.

Restart the network devices

  1. Turn off the Router, Printer, and the computer/ mobile devices.
  2. Wait for 60 seconds.
  3. Turn on the Router first and wait for all the lights to stabilize.
  4. Turn on the printer and allow it to configure itself.
  5. Turn on the computer/ mobile devices.

You may tap on the wireless icon on the printer screen to check the wireless details.

Let me know how this goes.

Thank you very much for your interest.  I am afraid that your suggestions have not worked.  The printer is connected to 2.4 wireless (incidentally does it have to be the same channel - however I am making it the same channel during this difficulty).  The result was that it does not connect.  Under scanners and printers under hp6950 it said driver not installed so I went to update the driver or install a driver but then it says the current driver is the best one.  So then i uninstalled every piece of hp printer software and deleted every hp driver download that I have had this last week and reinstalled 165mb from hp support assistant - and it still does not work.  I can scan from my computer and use usb to print.  I can email my printer from my computer.  I can use hp smart from mobile and scan and print.  I try hp smart app from my computer and I can only scan.  Print doctor finds nothing wrong as does printer troubleshooting.  Ho hum!  Is this a lost cause?  i always get "Error-Printing" when i try.  Query - under printer properties location I gt http://[fe80::aee2:d3ff:fe1d:9966%10]:3911/  - is that sensible?

thanks.  John Dudley

P.S.  Can I add that I can do things on the web embedded server and try to connect wirelessly but get - "The settings have been saved successfully. However, communication between the browser and the printer has been lost."
