While updating my virus protection my wifi was suddenly missing.  My wifi no longer is listed under device manager.  There are several wifi adapters listed for my computer.  Can anyone tell me which one is correct?  I am sending this from another computer and it is not possible to connect the problem computer to the internet via ethernet.  Thank you.

If you don't see the Ralink wireless network adapter listed under the Network Adapters device manager category or you don't see a device listed under an Other Devices category in the Device Manager, most likely the wlan card has died on you.

If you have the HP Connection Manager software installed, see if you can turn the wlan card on by using the software.

If you do not have the HP Connection Manager software installed, install it, restart the PC and see if you can turn the card on by using the software.

This package provides the HP Connection Manager for the supportednotebook models and operating systems.

If that doesn't do the trick, you can pretty much assume the card burned out.

Hi:

The parts list for your notebook indicates that it comes with the Ralink RT%390 wireless network adapter.

The driver is missing.  Which driver do I reinstall?  Thanks.

You're very welcome.

Assuming your notebook is still running the operating system it came with (W7), you need this driver...

This package contains the driver installation package for the Ralink Wireless LAN Controllers in supported notebook models that are running a supported operating system.

I installed the driver.  Note came up that it was already there but reinstalled anyway.  Wifi still doesn't work.  Is it a hardware problem then?

Thank you very much.  Will try.  At least a USB wifi is not expensive.  This is my Windows 7 laptop.  I just bought a new HP Windows 10 as I was starting to see problems with the old machine.
