Hi, I have a Netgear NAS DUO that I want to directly connect to my laptop, via ethernet instead of WiFi. I want to use it as my backup drive. Win10 says it cant see a valid IP address. Advice from Netgear is as follows:-
- Assign a static IP address to the ReadyNAS, and set your PC with a static IP in the same subnet.
- Connect the ReadyNAS and PC NIC using a straight or crossover Ethernet cable.
- Power on the ReadyNAS and scan with RAIDar to locate the ReadyNAS.
Note: If the ReadyNAS is set for DHCP (default mode), it will appear as IP 192.168.168.168.
My knowledge in this area is not good so I would be grateful of any advice on how go about this ?
Many thanks,
CK11

Netgear says Connect the ReadyNAS and PC NIC using a straight or crossover Ethernet cable. Do you use a right cable ? Normally the color of cable is red. That is something to do with Netgear, not your machine.
Since your NAS has a default IP all you do is to set your machine and your NAS are on a SAME subnet, for example
Your machine ip address: 192.168.0.8, subnet: 255.255.255.0
NAS Drive ip address: 192.168.168.168, subnet: 255.255.255.0
After that, use Netgear software to scan and it should find yous NAS because they are on a SAME subnet. Please note: you need a right cable first.
Regards.
