You're very welcome.

Yes, the cards are not that expensive nowadays.

Looking forward to reading the results of your notebook's Wi-Fi card upgrade project.

Be very careful when removing the thin and delicate antenna wires from the current Wi-Fi card.

Here is a service video for how to remove a M.2 Wi-Fi card from a newer model HP notebook:

Hi:

Chapter 3 of the service manual lists the Wi-Fi adapters HP offered in the model series.

HP EliteBook 820 G2 Notebook PC and HP EliteBook 720 G2 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide

Since the Intel 8265 AC Wi-Fi adapter is not listed as a supported Wi-Fi adapter, you may as well go big and see if this card works.  It has just as good a chance of working as the 8265:

Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 ax 2×2 + Bluetooth 5.0 MU-MIMO M.2 2230 non-vPro   HP part # L35282-005.

You can also try updating the Intel 7265 AC Wi-Fi driver to the latest version directly from the Intel website:

Intel® Wireless Wi-Fi Drivers for Wireless-AC 7265 (Rev. D), 3168 and 3165

I have the Intel 7265 AC Wi-Fi adapter in one of my HP notebooks and it works fine...no problems at all.

I also have one in one of my HP desktop PC's and it also works fine.

Intel® Wireless Wi-Fi Drivers for Wireless-AC 7265 (Rev. D), 3168 and 3165 tried them allready says  installation isnt possible to your system.

so the only solution is try 8265 by pure luck or try the one listed from the manual:Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 3160.

And finally what wifi is this you mention:Intel Wi-Fi 6 AX200 ax 2×2 + Bluetooth 5.0 MU-MIMO M.2 2230 non-vPro   HP part # L35282-005.Is it your current wifi card i suppose?thanks a lot for the advice anyway,have a nice day!!:)

You're very welcome.

I guess your notebook's Wi-Fi adapter is the older version of the 7265 not supported by the driver.

Mine were the revision D adapters and were supported by the driver.

I don't believe your notebook has a BIOS whitelist which means you should be able to install any M.2 Wi-Fi card you want except those on the list at the link below.

What Are the Intel® Integrated Connectivity (CNVi) and Companion...

So, what I'm saying is why just go up one level to a card not listed in the service manual when you can install the new generation Wi-Fi 6 adapter (AX200)?

But if installing an 8265 AC is what you want to do, then that card should work fine as well.

I have a couple of those installed in my desktop and one notebook PC but not an 820 G2.

You have a nice day too.

You're very welcome.

I did too.

Broke both terminals off an Intel 7265 and the pieces got stuck inside the antenna wire connectors.

Took me over an hour to dig the pieces out of the connectors so I could attach them to the Intel 9260 I upgraded to.

Have a great night.

It's 15:30 here in Illinois, USA.
