Envy Touchsmart
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

My HP is about 6 yrs old and continues to run very well.  But the internet connection wavers more often... and while I usualy remain online.. it won't stay connected when I move it into my office or other areas of the house.

I am wokring on a new laptop, testing, and it does connect in other areas...

Clearly it's a pc issue..   Spectrum says it has to do with age of my pc..

It may be time for new pc..  but just checking if there's anything that can be done.

thanks..

Hi:

The first thing to try is to see if there is an updated wifi driver that may resolve the issue.

What model wifi adapter does your PC have?

If you don't know, go to the device manager, click to expand the Network Adapters device manager category, and there you will find the name and model number of the wireless network adapter.

Hi..

It has Intel Centrino (R) Wireless-N 2230.

It says that it's working properly..

Is it possible to have the wireless adaptor changed?

HP Recommended

Hi:

Intel has discontinued support for the 2230, so I can't find a newer driver than what you probably have now.

As far as replacing the wifi adapter itself, that may very well be possible, but I will need you to post the full model number or product number of your notebook in order to answer that question and provide you with the best wifi card for your notebook.

The product number can be found on the same label as the serial number.

Please do not post the serial number.

Hi:

Yes, you can replace the 2230 wifi card with this model and it has full driver support for W8.1 and W10.

Not only that, but it will give you AC wifi speeds if you have a wireless AC router.

Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC 7260 802.11 ac 2x2 WiFi + BT 4.0    HP Part # 710661-001

The card is readily available on eBay or Amazon, and doesn't cost much at all.

Do your search by the HP part number, not by the model number of the wireless card.

Here is the link to the service manual for your notebook.

The wifi card removal and replacement procedures can be found in chapter 4.

These would be the latest W8.1 wifi and bluetooth drivers for the Intel 7260 AC...
