. Hi @ARD09,
Thanks for your response. I did review the post. I understand that the drivers are a little old. I want to first eliminate any hardware issues with the computer's wifi card by performing all the steps that are software related.
I understand perfectly that both WiFi and Ethernet wired connection both seem to be slow.
Some steps to try:
- Disable all firewalls and antivirus programs including windows ten's own firewalls and antivirus programs.
- try safe mode with networking to check if the Internet connection is fast there. Try both wired and wireless options.
- Link for safe mode with networking is given in my earlier post. Please try that.
- Uninstall the existing network adapters and update the bios chipset and network adapters (both wired and wireless) from this link : http://hp.com/drivers
- Please try to change the router's broadcasting channel to another value. try different working channels. that might help for wifi only.
- Try performing a clean boot in windows 10 using this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/kb/929135
- Try this link fixing network connections in windows 10: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/10741/windows-10-fix-network-connection-issues#network-prob...
- Then create a new user profile and try to connect both trhough wifi and using a wired connection.
- Then as a last ,resort try to perform a system recovery to factory setting and check if this helps after backing up all your files.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great. I'm always there to assist you. Please reach out anytime.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to give me a Kudos to appreciate my efforts to help. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution” as it will help several others with the same issue to get it resolved without hassles.
Take care now and have a splendid week ahead.

Hi @ARD09,
Welcome to the HP forums! It is a great way to engage, post questions and find resolutions by working with specialists in the HP community. I understand that your wifi internet is very slow. It will be a privilege to assist you.
You’ve done an excellent job on troubleshooting the issue from your end. Kudos to you on that score. It is always a privilege to work with technical specialists like you. I am simply amazed at technical skills and levels for technical expertise. Brilliant stuff.
We greatly value your relationship with HP. You are a valued HP customer and we appreciate you greatly for doing business with HP. I take it as a privilege to share this platform with you.
To isolate the issue clearly I request you to try connecting to the internet in safe mode with networking on windows 10. Check this link: https://support.microsoft.com/en-in/help/12376/windows-10-start-your-pc-in-safe-mode
- Please change the router channel to 11Ghz
- Please turn off windows update and disable the antivirus firewall only to check. You could enable them again.
- Also open device manager. Go to Network adapters and expand it. Select the wireless network adapter for your device by right-clicking on it and clicking on properties. Then go to power management option and uncheck the box that says” Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power. Also, check the box that says “Allow this device to wake the computer”
- Open windows Control Panel, open Power Options and next to your currently selected power plan, click Change plan setting. In the following window, click Change advanced power settings. In the next window, open up 'Wireless Adapter Settings' and then open up 'Power Saving Mode'. Next to On battery: click the current setting and a drop-down box will appear - select 'Maximum Performance'. Do the same for Plugged in. Then click Apply and Ok to save these settings.
For further assistance Please visit this link: https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c05207063
Please uninstall the Wi-Fi drivers and update it. Please also update the bios and chipset drivers also. To do this visit this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-15-ab200-notebook-pc-series/8499306/mode...
Finally, if nothing works you might need to perform a system recovery from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-15-j100-Select-Edition-Notebook-PC-series/6521373/model/...
Please backup all your files before attempting a system recovery to factory settings.
Hope this helps. Let me know how this goes. I hope the issue gets resolved without hassles and the unit works great.
To simply say thanks, please click the "Thumbs Up" button to appreciate my efforts. If this helps, please mark this as “Accepted Solution”.
Take care now and have a fabulous week ahead .

Also, I had already unchecked the option in power management before.
I set all the particular option in power saving mode to maximum performance. Also checked up on any windows update. It was on, and was stuck on 56%. I turned it off although it was 56% complete, but still didn't solve the problem.
The only option left is reinstalling drivers. I'll do that and get back.
Your efforts to help are always appreciated!

Also, note that, my WiFi as well as Ethernet is not working. How do I update these drivers after I reinstall them?
Thank you for your time 🙂

So basically, either one of the system hosts is eating up the entire bandwidth.
So could there be a problem here? And also how is this connected with the plugging in problem I had.
PS: My HP Laptop is under warranty period still. Half a year of warranty is still unexpired.
Thank you for your time 🙂

Hi @ARD09,
I read your post and thank you for it. Please perform a complete system recovery to factory settings and not a windows reset after backing up your files. Please perform a recovery from this link: http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-15-j100-Select-Edition-Notebook-PC-series/6521373/model/...
If this does not fix the issue then you will need to contact HP phone support to get the unit serviced. The link for phone support is http://hp.com/contacthp
Trust me I've done all I can to help.

I have experienced probably one of the best and quick electronic online service, which at the beginning I did not expect at all to be honest. Thank you so much for your patience.
Also I wanted to inform, Since I was a little reluctant to perform the system recovery 😛 I tried a small trick. I kept my laptop awake overnight to see if any update is being downloaded. The next morning, to my surprise, the problem was gone. And the internet seems to working good.
My question is, will this happen again? Should I still go on for system recovery?
