I removed the sim tray of my hp elitebook 1030 360 g3 laptop (which I found difficult to remove by the way) in order to insert my sim. On removal, it seems to be a dummy tray as there is no space in between to accommodate my sim card.

My question now is, being a sim enabled laptop, do I get a new sim tray or just accept the fact that my sim enabled laptop is unable to use a sim? If the advice is the former, how do I get a new sim tray? Thanks.

I think you are referring to the slot cover once you remove the sim slot dummy and insert a nano sim card (it's a nub of plastic that slides onto the end of the nano sim card to cover the slot).  That piece is part of the WWAN kit.  I have no idea how (or even if) that part can be ordered individually.  Having the nano sim inserted isn't enough, BTW, you also need the WWAN modem card installed.
